Original Charlie’s Angels Stars Mark 50th Anniversary With Reunion

Charlie’s Angels fans certainly had a good morning.

Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith, and Cheryl Ladd – the stars of the original 1970s series – came together in Los Angeles to celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary in a glamorous reunion.

At the PaleyFest LA event on April 6th, 77-year-old Kate wore a relaxed outfit: a black pantsuit over a white t-shirt, finished with black sneakers. The Dark Shadows actress kept her look comfortable and casual.

Jaclyn chose a stylish pink satin suit and completed the look with peep-toe heels. She styled her hair in a big, bouncy way, bringing back the iconic look she was known for in the 70s, complete with face-framing bangs.

Cheryl looked fantastic! The 74-year-old actress wore a stylish coral blazer with cream pants and completed the outfit with white sandals.

Kate, Jaclyn, and Cheryl first shared their plans for a 50th anniversary event back in January. They explained that since the show began in 1976—originally with Farrah Fawcett before Cheryl joined in the second season—they always knew the project would be a hit.

When Charlie’s Angels premiered, it quickly became a hit – partly because of Farrah Fawcett’s famous poster. Farrah, Jackie, and I immediately found success, and the show broke new ground for women on television,” the original Angels said in a statement to People magazine. “We became overnight sensations, almost like rock stars. When Cheryl Ladd joined us in the second season, she brought her own special talent to the mix, and the show continued to be a wild ride.

The popular story was reimagined for a new audience in 2000 with the movie Charlie’s Angels, starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu. Since then, the Charlie’s Angels brand has grown to include several sequels and an animated series.

Kate, Jaclyn, and Cheryl observed that the original ABC show was enjoyable and upbeat, but also subtly conveyed a powerful message: women are equally as competent as men, a message that resonated during the feminist movement of the 1970s.

We’re thrilled we could provide an hour of weekly entertainment for TV viewers,” they said. “We hoped it gave people a chance to relax and escape their worries, while also inspiring and empowering young women globally.”
