Oscar Isaac has made it clear, setting forth the essential prerequisite for his potential return to the Star Wars universe. Known for his portrayal of the daring X-wing pilot Poe Dameron in the Sequel Trilogy of the Star Wars saga, Isaac, like several of his colleagues, faces uncertainty regarding his continued role within this galaxy far, far away.
Although there are currently no announced plans (at least in public) for Isaac to reprise his role in the Sequel Trilogy, he recently discussed the conditions that could make a Star Wars comeback possible for him. It is known that Daisy Ridley, another Star Wars co-star of Isaac’s, will return for at least one more film based within the famous sci-fi universe, but so far, Isaac has not been included in the cast list for this project.
In an interview with Variety, Oscar Isaac, the actor who plays Poe Dameron, expressed his readiness to reprise the role if a compelling storyline presented itself.
“Yeah, I’d be [in] Star Wars again if there was something good to do with that.”
As a movie enthusiast, I align with Isaac’s approach in selecting projects, which he describes as follows: “It boils down to, ‘Is there something in a film that stirs such deep passion within me that when my alarm goes off in the morning, I’m already excited and ready to jump into it.’
Does a movie captivate me so much that the sound of my alarm clock in the morning sparks excitement within me for going to work? Is it compelling enough to motivate me and push me towards the end?
In the latest installment of the Star Wars saga, Isaac made his final appearance as Poe Dameron in 2019’s “Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.” To date, no new projects featuring Isaac’s character have been revealed.
In the upcoming Netflix film titled “Frankenstein,” Isaac is set to appear, a project directed by Guillermo del Toro, who previously brought us “Pan’s Labyrinth” and “The Shape of Water.” In this movie, Isaac will portray the lead character, the mad scientist, alongside Jacob Elordi from “Euphoria.
Will Oscar Isaac Ever Come Back to Star Wars?
Over the years, Oscar Isaac has often expressed his thoughts about reprising his Star Wars role, consistently emphasizing the importance of a compelling narrative.
In 2022, Isaac was queried about something similar, and he expressed that he would be receptive to the idea if it involved an exceptional story with an outstanding director. It appears that there’s no lingering resentment towards Star Wars; instead, he’s waiting for just the right offer to come along for him to potentially return to the franchise.
Indeed, it’s worth noting that Daisy Ridley, who has previously graced our screens as a fellow cast member in the Sequel Trilogy, is gearing up for her anticipated return to the distant galaxy in the upcoming New Jedi Order film, which is currently being developed.
It appeared likely that Isaac would be featured in that movie, but the actor himself has stated he won’t (up until May 2025). This suggests that fans might need to remain patient for further portrayals of Isaac as Poe Dameron within the Star Wars universe.
