Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099 Fan Poster Sparks Secret Wars Double Role Rumors

Are you excited for “Avengers: Secret Wars” to grace the big screen in 2027? We certainly are! Luckily, we have Mohd Haris from the well-known Marvel fan art account @welove__marvel to keep us company. In his latest post, he’s envisioned Oscar Isaac, who voiced Spider-Man 2099/Miguel O’Hara in both “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”, in a live-action role as well. Although he’s not wearing his mask in the fan-created poster, Isaac sports Spider-Man 2099’s distinctive suit with its red skull and red and blue accents. While Haris’s version retains Miguel’s arm blades that are part of the suit, it deviates from traditional comic versions, as well as the one shown in “Across the Spider-Verse”, by featuring more red than the usual all-blue suit. Isaac’s O’Hara stands before a skyline, presumably Miguel’s home of Nueva York.

In 1992, the character Spider-Man 2099 was initially introduced in comics as part of Marvel’s futuristic comic book series. This new version of a classic hero was conceptualized by writer Peter David and artist Rick Leonardi. The character quickly became popular, receiving his own series that same year, and has since played a significant role in Marvel comics, Spider-Man video games, and as one of Miles Morales’s adversaries in the animated film Across the Spider-Verse. Unlike the original Spider-Man, Miguel, who is an Irish-Mexican geneticist, obtained his powers not from a radioactive spider bite, but through a DNA experiment that went awry and combined his genetic material with that of a spider.

Rumors Hint that Isaac Could Play a Double Role in Avengers: Secret Wars

It’s not uncommon for fans to note that Isaac Mohammed Beshir Ahmed, or simply Isaac, is already part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s live-action roster, portraying Moon Knight, an embodiment of the Egyptian god Khonshu. In the 2022 Disney+ series “Moon Knight,” Isaac skillfully breathed life into not only the hero but also the three personalities of Marc Spector, Steven Grant, and Jake Lockley.

Nevertheless, as Haris notes in his post’s title, there’s been talk that Isaac might take on Miguel again in live-action for Secret Wars. However, considering the circumstances, this rumor seems to be more of a long shot than a reality. Although Haris skillfully depicts Isaac in the Spider-Man 2099 suit, it’s worth noting that the actor doesn’t closely resemble the Miguel character seen in Across the Spider-Verse. (It’s safe to say that no one looks like the imposing, muscular Miguel in real life!)

Isaac is a highly acclaimed actor, frequently recognized as one of the best of his generation. Consequently, if Kevin Feige plans to have Miguel O’Hara appear in live-action with the same voice actor, Isaac has clearly demonstrated that he can manage both roles, much like he did in Moon Knight. Not only did Isaac skillfully depict the shifts between Marc and Steven as each alter took control of their shared body on the show, but he also played both characters simultaneously in the final episodes of the season on screen.

Avengers: Secret Wars opens in theaters on December 17, 2027.
