Even though we’ve known for almost three years that Season 8 will be the last of Outlander, it’s still expected to be a very emotional season for fans. We can look forward to the show’s signature time travel, romance, and plenty of drama, but many viewers are especially excited to finally get answers to some long-standing mysteries. The premiere in 2026 promises to address these questions quickly, and hopefully that means the show will deal with the biggest concerns fans have had.
What Outlander’s Showrunner Said About The Start Of Season 8
Let’s be honest, right now most of the buzz around the final season of Outlander isn’t about the plot – it’s about the emotional goodbye the cast and crew experienced when filming wrapped late last year. I’ve been hearing a lot from the stars – Sam Heughan, Caitríona Balfe, and Sophie Skelton, among others – about how tough it was to say farewell to the show. Skelton even described the final table read as both incredibly emotional and, thankfully, perfect. It’s clear this ending was a deeply personal one for everyone involved.
Matthew B. Roberts, the showrunner, recently shared some details with Vanity Fair about the upcoming season. He said viewers can expect the kind of stories they’ve grown to love, and also revealed what will happen at the start of Season 8:
We started with a lot of information, and that will continue throughout. Expect some conflict and challenges, but ultimately, things will be resolved.
So, someone asked if the recent buzz meant we’d be getting answers to some of Outlander‘s biggest questions, and the showrunner basically said we won’t be waiting much longer for a lot of them! As a huge fan, that’s amazing to hear. There are two major mysteries everyone’s been obsessing over, and one of them will definitely be addressed in Season 7. I’m so excited!
The Outlander Mystery I Hope We Have Answers To ASAP In Season 8
Fans have long wondered about the mysterious, ghostly image of Jamie that appeared in the very first episode of Outlander. While I’m hoping we’ll finally get answers about that in season eight, my biggest concern right now is resolving the dramatic cliffhanger from season seven.
I’m referring to Claire’s surprise when she heard Fanny sing a song from the 20th century – a song Claire herself had sung to their daughter, Faith, before Faith passed away. This led Claire to wonder if Faith might actually still be alive. If Claire is right, it would raise many questions, especially about Master Raymond, who was present at Faith’s birth, and potentially involve Jamie’s son, William.
William deeply cared for Fanny’s sister, Jane, and desperately tried to help her when she was imprisoned, but sadly, she took her own life. This creates a disturbing possibility: William and Jane had a sexual relationship. If Fanny and Jane are the daughters of Faith, it would mean William had an affair with his own niece! Fans are understandably horrified by this potential storyline.
It’s understandable why the character is struggling. He’s dealing with a lot – the shock of learning who his father is, guilt over Jane’s death, and the possibility he had an inappropriate relationship with a family member. All of this could easily overwhelm anyone. Many viewers, like myself, are worried about the potential incestuous storyline if Faith survives and is revealed to be the mother of Jane and Fanny, and we’re hoping this issue is addressed and resolved quickly at the beginning of Season 8.
