The show remains incredibly popular on streaming platforms. As the eight-season fantasy series about time travel and romance approaches its final episodes, it’s ending with a lot of excitement.
The popular historical drama series first aired in 2014, and like many shows that run for a long time, it’s had some ups and downs. However, Season 8 was a major success, receiving excellent reviews and attracting the show’s largest audience in years. It also reached a significant milestone on the Starz streaming platform, according to FlixPatrol.
Even before its eighth season began airing on March 6th, the show has been incredibly popular. It will conclude with the current season on May 8th, but has already spent over 600 days ranking among the top 10 shows on Starz in the U.S.
Outlander Season 8 Features a Rare Perfect Score
The series Outlander follows the love story of Claire Beauchamp and Jamie Fraser, who come from different time periods. Claire, a nurse from World War II, is unexpectedly transported to 1743 Scotland, where she falls in love with Jamie, a Highland warrior, and they become caught up in a historical rebellion.
The series is passionate and features a central love story between Claire and Jamie, but it’s also filled with historical detail and intense violence, including scenes that some viewers may find upsetting. Over the course of the show, Claire and Jamie attempt to prevent a rebellion, participate in warfare, and become entangled in numerous plots, betrayals, and separations.
The series shifted locations from Scotland to France in its second season, eventually settling in North Carolina in the U.S. There, the story incorporates the American Revolutionary War and other significant historical events.
Generally, Outlander has been very well-received, earning a 91% approval rating from critics and 85% from viewers. While seasons 4 through 6 received slightly lower scores – 88%, 86%, and 89% respectively – they were still considered ‘Fresh’. Season 7 was highly praised by critics, achieving a 95% rating, and the latest season has also been met with positive feedback from fans, though an audience score isn’t currently available.
Outlander Is Avoiding the Game of Thrones Problem
Initial reactions to the series are positive. It’s adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s popular book series, but since the final book hasn’t been published yet, the show’s creators, Ronald D. Moore and Matthew B. Roberts, had to work with guidance from the author to continue the story.
Despite initial concerns, it became clear they grasped the story and are enthusiastic about the new novel, A Blessing for a Warrior Going Out. They also discussed the upcoming conclusion to the series before the final book is released.
The actor who plays Jamie Fraser believes fans might always want more. He feels this is because the show hasn’t adapted every book in the series yet, and the full story hasn’t been told.
Outlander releases new episodes every Saturday on Starz.
