Blizzard Entertainment is delivering on its promises for the future of Overwatch. In 2026, the game will be structured around yearly storylines divided into multiple seasons. The first season begins on February 10th and will introduce five new playable characters. Plus, the ‘2’ is being dropped from the title, bringing the game back to simply Overwatch.
This big update also introduces a new approach to releasing heroes, with 10 new characters planned each year. The first season will feature five new heroes: Domina, a durable Tank; Emre and Anran, both Damage dealers (with Anran being Wuyang’s sister); Mizuki, a Support hero; and the highly anticipated Jetpack Cat. The game is also refining hero types, breaking them down into more specific roles, like Bruiser Tanks who are harder to critically hit, and Survivor Tanks who heal while moving.
Starting February 5th, you’ll be able to try out the new hero, Anran, for a limited time. The next season will also introduce two new core maps to play alongside the existing Conquest mode, where you can join either Talon or Overwatch, and earn rewards as you progress through different stages.
On top of everything else, Blizzard is improving character abilities, adding new dialogue, simplifying Stadium mode with suggested strategies, and completely redesigning the user interface. Plus, they’re planning to support the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2! There are even more surprises coming, so keep an eye out for future announcements.
