Britain has produced many fantastic science fiction films, and we’ve chosen seven that are particularly noteworthy for their impact, emotional depth, strong storytelling, and lasting influence. These films come from celebrated directors like Terry Gilliam, Danny Boyle, Alex Garland, Alfonso Cuarón, and Stanley Kubrick, all well-known for their work in the sci-fi genre. While British sci-fi continues to evolve with films like Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars and Jonny Campbell’s Cold Storage, these seven movies remain benchmarks for quality.

In a recent podcast interview on On Film… With Kevin McCarthy, director Shawn Levy revealed he’s already thinking about how to approach Deadpool 4. He explained that the success of big sequels like Avengers: Endgame and his own Deadpool & Wolverine comes from building on years of established stories. While he’s right about that being key to their appeal, it also makes creating Deadpool 4 particularly challenging, especially now that Deadpool & Wolverine has been such a hit.

I recently discovered this really interesting movie, Brightburn, and it totally flipped the superhero story on its head! It came out in 2019, directed by David Yarovesky and written by the Gunn brothers. It’s about a boy named Brandon Breyer who’s actually from another planet, but he’s raised as one of us by wonderful parents. But as he gets older and goes through puberty, something dark starts to take over, and he doesn’t use his powers to help people… he uses them to follow some seriously disturbing impulses. It just landed on Netflix, and I couldn’t stop watching!

So, I was reading an interview with Masayoshi Yokoyama, the director at RGG Studio, and he dropped some interesting hints. Honestly, he’s known for saying things that get Yakuza fans like me really excited and paying attention!
