Starting September 1st, you can watch The Gift (2000) on Paramount+. This supernatural thriller follows a woman who gets drawn into a mystery surrounding a missing person after having a psychic experience. While it’s quite different from the superhero films popular in theaters now, it actually has an interesting link to Marvel. The Gift was Sam Raimi’s last film before he directed the Spider-Man trilogy, and it paired him with actors Rosemary Harris and J.K. Simmons, who later appeared in his Spider-Man movies as Aunt May Parker and J. Jonah Jameson, respectively.

For a franchise like Mass Effect, which has always focused on exploring planets and solving galactic mysteries, this current trend is particularly worrying. With Mass Effect 5 currently in development, the series has a chance to move away from the industry’s focus on massive size and go back to what made the original trilogy so special: worlds that, while smaller in scope, were packed with rich, detailed experiences. The sci-fi RPG genre really needs this shift in direction; otherwise, it risks becoming just another open-world RPG that doesn’t stand out.

As a huge MCU fan, I remember how central the Infinity Stones were to the whole Infinity Saga – they were basically everything Thanos wanted! He managed to gather all six in Avengers: Infinity War and, well, you know what happened – he snapped half of all life away. Then, five years later, the Avengers finally reversed it and defeated him, using the Stones themselves. But honestly, thinking about the newer characters the MCU is introducing, I can’t help but wonder if some of them might actually be more powerful than Thanos. It makes me think, if the Infinity Stones ever reappear in the live-action universe, who could wield them and what would they do? It’s a really exciting thought! I’m already speculating!

The investors involved are the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF), Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. This deal has a staggering value of $55 billion.
