Beyond its compelling story and well-developed characters, the show Paradise keeps viewers hooked by constantly presenting questions and mysteries. Season 2 has continued this trend, and the latest episode, number 6, subtly introduced another puzzle connected to the killer, Jane.
The episode begins with a flashback showing Jane’s birth. As Jane and her mother leave the hospital, a strange man approaches, shouting that the baby is evil and destined to become a murderer, and that someone needs to prevent it.
The scene is short, but memorable. It’s difficult to see how this brief flashback will impact the story going forward, and even more puzzling is how anyone could have predicted she would become a dangerous assassin.
TopMob recently spoke with John Hoberg, the producer of Paradise. He assured fans that the mysterious character known as the Doomsday man will return, and the show will eventually explain everything about him.
Paradise is now streaming on Hulu.
Will We Ever See Mr. Doomsday Again?

“Do Things Happen For a Reason, Or Are They Coincidences?”
- TopMob: “Are we ever gonna acknowledge that doomsday man ever again?”
John Hoberg says a major theme this season revolves around whether events occur by chance or if there’s a deeper purpose behind them. The show asks viewers to consider if things are simply coincidences, or if they’re meant to be. However, the writers themselves believe everything happens for a reason.
That Curious Time Travel Fan Theory for Paradise

“We Could Kind of Go Anywhere.”
A popular fan theory suggests the show Paradise might be hinting at time travel. Although it sounds far-fetched, there’s growing evidence to back it up, and the character of Jane’s doomsday prepper seems to fit right in with this idea.
TopMob discussed the idea of time travel with John Hoberg, a producer on Paradise. Hoberg didn’t offer much comment on the theory itself, but he did point out that the show is flexible and could potentially explore different types of stories and genres.
- TopMob: “I was reading a very interesting theory… And I actually thought this briefly when I was watching the show. I just didn’t dive too far into this rabbit hole, but there is a fan theory building up that Paradise could introduce something like time travel. Is that concept something that you think is too insane for Paradise and not within [the show’s] wheelhouse? Or do you think anything’s game on Paradise?”
John Hoberg notes that Season 2 feels like a shift in tone, moving towards a more sci-fi and post-apocalyptic setting while still maintaining its core genre. He believes this new direction, and the lead character, offers a lot of creative freedom, allowing the story to explore many different possibilities. He’s hesitant to reveal specifics about where the story might go, but emphasizes the potential for diverse narratives.
I’ve been seeing all the fan theories, and honestly, it’s amazing! Some of them are wild, and a few actually make us think, ‘Wow, that would have been a great idea!’ We wish we’d thought of that! But for me, the exciting thing is that wherever the story takes us, it’ll still feel connected to what we’re building. I really believe our main character has a strong enough core motivation that it could make any kind of genre change work seamlessly, if we ever decided to go in that direction.
Hoberg assured fans they plan to address all the questions raised by the show, Paradise.
From the start, our show has always been about raising important questions and then providing the answers – and fans can rely on us to deliver. We did that in Season 1, and we’re continuing that approach now. We’ll be introducing new mysteries, but as the season progresses, we’ll reveal the truth about the central murder and the events that unfolded. Throughout the first seven episodes, we’ll address most of the key questions, and the remaining ones will be resolved. Ultimately, you’ll learn who Alex is, while also being left with some new things to ponder.
Was Jane Always a Pyschopath?

“She Actually Does Have Human Emotions…”
- TopMob: “I want to talk about Jane, who is an extremely intriguing character. In Episode 6, you see her as kind of a normal person, but there’s all there’s always something off, obviously. I’m just curious in your mind and the writer’s, is there ever a true semblance of normalcy to Jane, or is she actually always a psychopath and kind of doomed for evil, and that normalcy that you see is truly all an act?”
We discussed Max’s character a lot, because what we showed in Season 1 was essentially a psychopath. She killed Billy and didn’t even seem to care, almost mocking him afterward. In Episode 6, we explored how things might have been different if her mother hadn’t been so resentful. Maybe she would have become a politician – someone a little manipulative, but not nearly as dangerous.
Her behavior is a mix of innate tendencies and how she was raised, with her upbringing strongly influencing her actions. She fundamentally craves maternal affection, which explains her intense connection within the CIA – she essentially sought a mother figure. This led her to make irrational and extreme choices in an attempt to help someone she saw as a replacement mother, specifically concerning the situation with the bag.
It’s clear Sinatra understands she has issues with her mother and is exploiting that vulnerability. Beneath the surface, there’s a deeply human part of her craving affection, which makes her susceptible to manipulation because her sense of right and wrong isn’t as strong as most people’s. We wanted to hint at this inner person in her backstory – even if it’s just a small part of her.
