Paradise producer hints that series will end with third season as season 2 premieres

John Hoberg, a producer on the show Paradise, has indicated that the series probably won’t last more than three seasons.

The popular Hulu show recently released the first three episodes of its second season, but it hasn’t been officially renewed for a third season yet.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about season two, showrunner Hoberg hinted at a possible third season, while also suggesting that the show is heading towards its conclusion.

He confirmed that some characters haven’t had their backstory revealed yet, but promised that will change in season 3. They’re currently planning episode 7 and know how the season will conclude, and everyone will eventually get the chance to have their story told.

He explained that space is limited, and the story guides how much time is spent on each character. He’s eager to explore Robinson’s (Krys Marshall) past, and viewers will learn more about her and other characters as their stories become central to the overall plot. Decisions about character focus were made based on their importance to the bigger picture.

We know how the story concludes, and that ending would make it very challenging to create another season.

These remarks from Hoberg align with what the show’s creator, Dan Fogelman, said before: the series was always intended to run for three seasons.

In January 2025, creator Dan Fogelman told The Hollywood Reporter that the show was planned to run for three seasons. He explained that he had a clear idea of the overall story arc and how each season would unfold, even if the details weren’t fully planned from the beginning. He knew the ending by the time the first script was written.

Paradise features Sterling K. Brown as Xavier Collins, a Secret Service agent who survives a devastating natural disaster by living in an underground bunker after civilization on the surface is destroyed.

In Season 2, Collins leaves home for the first time, determined to find his wife, Teri, who has been missing for a long time.
