Be warned, major spoilers ahead for Season 2 of Paradise! The show’s third and final season centers around whether Xavier Collins, a Secret Service agent accused of presidential assassination, will succeed in his mission. The first episode revealed the entire story takes place in an underground bunker for the wealthy, and Season 2 followed Xavier as he searched for his wife in a devastated America. The season finale revealed that Sinatra (Julianne Nicholson), a billionaire living in the bunker, is hiding a powerful AI supercomputer called “Alex.” This AI can travel through time and might be able to reverse the event that caused Earth’s mass extinction – but only if Xavier answers the call and locates “Alex” in another hidden bunker.
The story is quite complex, which is typical for science fiction dystopias. Sinatra learned that “Alex” gave her directions intended for someone called “User X,” and she thinks this person is Xavier. She also now believes that Link, a man searching for a safe haven, is actually her deceased son, Dylan, due to a disruption in time caused by Alex’s time travel. The upcoming season will center on whether Xavier follows Sinatra’s suggestion and hunts down Alex, potentially traveling through time to save everyone.
In a recent interview with Variety, Emmy Award-winning actor Sterling K. Brown, who stars as Xavier, explained how Season 3 is being set up.
This feels like Dan Fogelman tackling the idea of multiple universes. Shows that touch on science fiction often explore time travel and the rules that might govern it. I first became fascinated with this concept with Back to the Future. We’ve seen Marvel and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse play with different timelines too. What I find compelling about Everything Everywhere All at Once is how grounded it is – it really opens your mind to the idea that anything you can imagine might actually be possible.
The first season of Paradise was captivating because the premiere presented a mysterious presidential assassination, and the episode’s ending revealed the entire story unfolded in an underground bunker. Despite this unusual setting, the central question remained: who killed the president? Now, the possibility of time travel adds another layer of intrigue, as Brown explains:
Now that this new element has entered the picture, the central question becomes: what do we want to do with it? Do we try to return to how things were before? Or do we embrace the future and leave it be? Is it something we should avoid because it’s too strange, or is it too fascinating to ignore? Ultimately, everyone will make a different choice based on their own personal circumstances, and we’ll see how those decisions unfold throughout Season 3.

John Hoberg, an executive producer and co-writer of the season 2 finale of Paradise, suggests that Sinatra may have imagined the solution to the world’s problems as a way of coping with her sadness. In an interview with Variety, Hoberg hinted at the direction of season 3, stating that Xavier will be given a mission, and the show will explore whether he completes it and what the consequences might be either way. He didn’t want to categorize the season’s genre, but emphasized the central question of Xavier’s choices and their impact.
Thomas Doherty, who plays Link, explained that his character is facing a lot at once: becoming a new father, potentially being the reborn son of a wealthy man, and dealing with the grief of losing his daughter’s mother, Annie (played by Shailene Woodley). He described it as a complex situation, saying that each of these challenges would be difficult on its own. The show will explore how Link comes to terms with his daughter, the possibility that Sinatra was his mother, and the loss of Annie.
The Hulu series Paradise, which debuted in January 2025, received favorable reviews, with critics highlighting the performance of Brown and the show’s unique combination of science fiction and political intrigue. The series was created by Dan Fogelman, also known for co-creating the NBC drama This Is Us and writing the screenplays for films like Cars, Tangled, and Crazy, Stupid, Love. Paradise is anticipated to return for another season in 2027.
