Paramount experienced a security breach on Tuesday, adding to a week of challenges for the company. Someone hacked into their official X (formerly Twitter) account, which has 3.5 million followers, and temporarily changed the account’s bio to state that Paramount was “a Proud arm of the fascist regime.”
I was totally shocked when I checked Paramount Pictures’ X (formerly Twitter) account today! Someone had clearly hacked it and changed the bio to say, “Proud arm of the fascist regime.” It was a really disturbing thing to see, and obviously not something the studio would ever post themselves.
The recent hacking of Paramount Pictures’ X (formerly Twitter) account happened shortly after Paramount, led by David Ellison and Skydance, began a contentious attempt to directly appeal to shareholders in a takeover bid.

A strange message briefly appeared on Paramount Pictures’ X (formerly Twitter) account before being corrected. It simply read: “The official X account for Paramount Pictures.”
While the culprit behind the breach is still unknown, the timing could not be more charged.
A Hack in the Middle of a Corporate War
Paramount Pictures suffered a cyberattack shortly after its parent company, Paramount Skydance, made a move to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. The company launched an unsolicited takeover bid directly to Warner Bros. Discovery shareholders this week.

This move came after Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery announced a major deal to buy content and studios, significantly changing how people view streaming and movies. In response, Ellison made a bigger offer, entirely in cash, supported by investments from Saudi Arabia, loans from Wall Street, and with the backing of Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law.
To people looking in, the hack might seem like a random act of trouble-making, especially given the company’s current political situation.
Trump, Paramount, and the Ellisons: A Complicated Triangle
It’s common to see people on Twitter label something a “fascist regime,” and it’s usually someone critical of President Trump and his supporters trying to make that point.
Donald Trump has a well-known relationship with the Ellison family. He mentioned to reporters on Air Force One in October that they are strong supporters of his.

I remember when the Skydance and Paramount merger was happening, I heard someone say really positive things about David Ellison. They were confident he’d be a fantastic CEO for the combined studio, saying he’d ‘do a great job.’
This week, tensions arose between the White House and the organization led by Keith Ellison.
Following a 60 Minutes report about Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene – a report that Donald Trump didn’t like – he began to criticize the new owners of the show.

In a post on Truth Social, he stated his main issue with the show wasn’t the person he considered a traitor, but the fact that Paramount, the new owner of 60 Minutes, would allow it to be broadcast. He believes the new ownership is just as bad as the previous one.
He continued, claiming: “60 Minutes has actually gotten WORSE!”
These remarks circulated widely just 24 hours before Paramount’s X account was compromised.
Trump Asked About the WBD Sale Battle
During a press conference, when questioned about his preference between Paramount’s offer and Warner Bros. Discovery, Trump stated he wasn’t familiar enough with the details. He acknowledged knowing both companies and their activities, but said he needed more information before forming an opinion.

The president explained that the decision will hinge on how the proposals impact the market positions of Netflix and Paramount Skydance.
He admitted they weren’t close friends, explaining he just wants to make the right decision. It’s worth knowing the Ellisons are strong supporters of Trump, and the president’s son-in-law is supporting the Paramount deal.

This all shows the intense political pressure, behind-the-scenes corporate maneuvering, and widespread public attention focused on Paramount when the hack happened.
Was This Just a Hack — or a Statement?
Although investigators haven’t found any connection to a specific political group, employee, competitor, or activist, the message published on Paramount X was obviously designed to cause an uproar.
According to Variety, Paramount didn’t initially respond to a request for comment. However, the biography was quickly put back online after they published their report.

Even so, the hack introduced more instability at a moment when Paramount is:
- Fighting Netflix for control of WBD
- Sparring indirectly with comments coming out of the White House
- Attempting to project stability to shareholders ahead of a transformational acquisition battle
The recent hacking of Paramount could be a sign of the growing instability in the media industry. As studios struggle to adapt, and relationships between key players change, the future of Hollywood is constantly being reshaped, and this incident might be a symptom of that broader chaos.
More to Come
As with all breaking security breaches, That Park Place will continue monitoring updates, including:
- Whether Paramount identifies the attacker
- Whether the hack is linked to recent political tensions
- Whether any internal systems were accessed
- Any reaction from Skydance, WBD, or Netflix as the takeover battle escalates
If additional information becomes available, we will update this report immediately.
