Everyone needs a truly silly movie now and then, and Paramount+ has one ready to go. With a shockingly low 5% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this film is perfect for when you just want to turn off your brain and enjoy something wonderfully bad.
The 2008 comedy College follows high school senior Kevin (Drake Bell) after his girlfriend breaks up with him. He’s not excited about starting college at Fairmont University, but his friends, Andrew and Kevin, won’t let him skip the freshman orientation. They pull him along and quickly introduce him to the wild party scene and the students of Fairmont’s most boisterous fraternity and several sororities.
It’s Certainly A Movie
The movie College received overwhelmingly negative reviews, with critics harshly panning it. Mack Rawden of Cinema Blend called it stale and unfunny, giving it only half a star out of five and suggesting the only amusement might come from seeing American Idol’s Kevin Covais in the film. Marco Cerritos of Boxoffice Magazine concurred, describing the movie as poorly directed, with a weak script and a lack of compelling characters, and stating it falls far short of being a modern Animal House.
Viewers had mixed reactions to the coming-of-age comedy. One person described it as a predictable but occasionally surprising teen movie about guys trying to lose their virginity in college, noting that whether you enjoy it depends on your taste. Another viewer, while admitting it wasn’t a great film, appreciated its return to the R-rated teen comedy genre. They found it slow to start but ultimately enjoyable, recommending it to those simply looking for a lighthearted laugh. Overall, opinions were divided, with some finding it boring and others appreciating its humor.
