Paramount+’s New Record-Breaking Yellowstone Spin-Off Has Lost Its Number 1 Streaming Spot

As a huge fan of modern Westerns, I’ve been following this show – it’s become a massive hit on TV. It’s spawned this whole universe of connected shows – prequels, sequels, you name it – all thanks to Taylor Sheridan and John Linson. But I’m hearing that one of the newer spin-offs is starting to slip from the top spot on streaming, which is a little surprising given how popular the whole franchise has been.

According to FlixPatrol, Dutton Ranch is currently the fourth most popular show on Paramount+ in the U.S. It’s dropped a few spots in the rankings. South Park is now number one, and Marshals, part of the Yellowstone franchise, is in second place.

Dutton Ranch remains a hit on Paramount+, achieving the biggest premiere of any original series on the platform. It garnered 12.9 million views worldwide in its first week, surpassing the previous record of 8 million views held by the series The Madison over its first ten days.

What Is Dutton Ranch About?

The series stars Kelly Reilly as Beth Dutton and Cole Hauser as her husband, Rip Wheeler. Both actors originally played these characters in Yellowstone, and Dutton Ranch continues their story after they relocate to South Texas. Finn Little also returns as Carter, Beth and Rip’s son, having previously appeared in Yellowstone.

Dutton Ranch is a new series created by Chad Feehan, premiering on May 15, 2026. The show features a cast including Juan Pablo Raba as Joaquin Jackson Reyes, Jai Courtney as Rob-Will Jackson, J. R. Villarreal as Azul Ramos, Marc Menchaca as Zachariah Moss, Natalie Alyn Lind as Oreana Lynn Jackson, Ed Harris as Everett McKinney, and Annette Bening as Beulah Jackson.

Dutton Ranch Received Positive Reviews from Critics

Critics and audiences both seem to love Dutton Ranch. It currently has an 88% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on reviews, and an 83% audience score. On IMDb, the Yellowstone spin-off has earned a strong 8.4 rating from over 5,000 viewers. Nick Schager of The Daily Beast praised it as the most enjoyable installment in the series since the very first one.

Most viewers find the newest season enjoyable, despite its flaws. In a review, Peter Travers noted that Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser successfully capture the essence of Yellowstone as they head to Texas, even without the Montana setting or Kevin Costner. He admits it’s a challenge, but entertaining to watch them attempt it.

Though still broadcasting new episodes, the Dutton Ranch spin-off of Yellowstone could climb to the top spot again. Currently, only three episodes are available, and the next one, “Start With a Bullet,” will air on May 29th. As the show develops, it’s finding its place within the Yellowstone storyline.

Dutton Ranch is available to stream on Paramount+, with new episodes on Friday.
