Despite being a highly anticipated original series for Paramount+, *Halo* didn’t quite live up to expectations. While viewers who watched the show-based on the popular Xbox game-generally enjoyed it, the series was expensive to produce and didn’t attract the large audience Paramount+ was hoping for. As a result, after only two seasons, the show was cancelled despite being intended as a key program for the streaming service.
Most cancelled streaming shows don’t get a second chance, but the live-action series *Halo* is an exception. Netflix announced this week that both seasons of the show will be available to stream on its platform starting October 1st.
All 17 episodes of *Halo* are heading to Netflix, potentially reaching a much larger audience than the show has had before. Like other sci-fi series such as *The Extant* that gained popularity on Netflix after their initial cancellation, *Halo* could find a new fanbase on the streaming service.
Is There Hope for Halo Season 3?
Netflix has a history of rescuing canceled TV shows and giving them a second life. Shows like *Lucifer* and *Manifest* found new homes on Netflix and were able to finish their storylines after being canceled by other networks. Now, with *Halo* potentially coming to Netflix, could it experience a similar revival and become a hit?
Many Halo fans are likely wondering if the show will continue, but it’s too early to say. We don’t know the details of the original cancellation agreements or what it would take to revive the series. If it were to be picked up, it’s unclear if it would stay on Paramount+ or if another streaming service, like Netflix – which previously saved Cobra Kai – might acquire the rights.
The future of *Halo* is uncertain, and it might not return for a third season as it was originally made. However, gaining an audience on a platform like Netflix is still positive for the franchise. Even if it just increases interest in the show or boosts sales of the *Halo* games, that would be a success.
