Paramount’s Long-Running 8-Season Crime Series Is Officially Ending This Year With First Look Revealed

After many seasons, a popular crime show will conclude its run later in 2024 on Paramount+.

While Paramount+ is famous for Taylor Sheridan’s shows, it also streams many other popular series under the Paramount brand, including hits like Yellowjackets and Dexter: Resurrection. Now, another beloved show that first appeared on Showtime will be concluding its run on the platform.

Paramount+ announced that season eight will be the final season of The Chi, and it’s coming out later this year. While we don’t have a specific date yet, the streaming service did share some first-look photos hinting at the drama and crime storylines we can expect. Created by Lena Waithe and first released in January 2018, the drama series The Chi opens with the heartbreaking death of Coogie Johnson (Jahking Guillory). His shooting, and specifically the fatal chest wound, sets the stage for the entire story and impacts all the characters in this Chicago-based show.

Overall, the show explores the impact of a shocking event on a Chicago neighborhood and follows the lives of its characters. The final season, set during a particularly harsh winter, centers around difficult, life-or-death decisions and whether anyone will be able to make the right ones.

The show The Chi stars Jacob Latimore, Birgundi Baker, Luke James, Shamon Brown Jr., Michael V. Epps, Hannaha Hall, and Jason Weaver. Lena Waithe executive produces and also appears in the series, alongside co-showrunners Justin Hillian and Jewel Coronel. The production company is 20th Television.

The first season of The Chi was well-received, earning an 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 47 critics. While later seasons don’t have scores yet due to a lack of reviews, the show made a strong and immediate impact.
