Patrick Swayze’s Brother Sean Swayze Dead at 63

The Swayze family has experienced another loss.

Sean Swayze, brother of the late Patrick Swayze, passed away on December 15th at the age of 63 due to an upper gastrointestinal bleed, as stated on his death certificate obtained by People magazine.

Rachel Leon shared the sad news on Instagram that her cousin, Sean Swayze, has passed away. She mentioned they had recently been making plans for him to visit Texas, and she was excited about the possibility.

According to Sean’s death certificate, he died from a combination of serious health issues, including a severe chemical imbalance, enlarged veins in his esophagus, and cirrhosis of the liver caused by alcohol abuse, as reported by People magazine.

Sean is remembered by his brother, Don Swayze, and his children, Jesse, Kyle, and Cassie Swayze.

Rachel shared a message saying they are thinking of the whole family and sending their love during this tough time. She expressed how much she loves Sean and that he will be greatly missed.

Before his brother passed away in 2009 after fighting pancreatic cancer, the star of Dirty Dancing experienced his own loss. In the years since, his widow, Lisa Niemi—who later married Albert DePrisco in 2014—has shared how watching his films helps her remember and cherish his memory.

Lisa shared in a 2023 interview on Today that certain scenes always get to her. She specifically mentioned she consistently cries at the same three moments in Ghost, and always enjoys the scene in Point Break where Patrick Swayze’s character falls from the plane, saying ‘Adios, amigo,’ because it perfectly captures his personality.

Even though he’s been gone for more than 15 years, Lisa says she still feels his presence in her life daily.

Lisa, a long-time supporter of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, described how her father’s voice remains with her. She explained that she often ‘hears’ him commenting on her actions, and when she’s struggling or needs encouragement, she can mentally ask for his advice. He typically responds with a straightforward, ‘Come on, get real,’ which helps her through difficult times.
