Paul Bettany’s TV version of the iconic Amadeus confirms release window in dramatic first-look trailer

A new Sky mini-series called Amadeus, which offers a fresh take on the life of Mozart, will be arriving soon. We now know when it’s expected to air.

The new five-episode Sky Original series, featuring Will Sharpe (known from The White Lotus) as a brilliant musician, will premiere on Sky and NOW in December.

Paul Bettany, known for his role in WandaVision, plays Antonio Salieri, a composer who envies Mozart. Gabrielle Creevy (In My Skin, Black Doves) stars as Constanze Weber, Mozart’s devoted wife.

Written by Joe Barton, known for his work on Black Doves, ‘Amadeus’ is inspired by Peter Shaffer’s famous play. It tells the story of Mozart’s incredible success, his tragic fate, and the bitter competition he had with composer Salieri.

According to the official description, Salieri is a complex character: a hero in his own mind, but seen as a villain by history. Driven by jealousy, he desperately tries to sabotage Mozart and maintain his standing within the musical world, resorting to any tactic he can.

A new trailer accompanied the release date announcement, offering fans their first glimpse of the actors performing and showcasing the dramatic rivalry between the two main characters.

You can watch the trailer for yourself below:

The cast includes Rory Kinnear (known for *The Diplomat*) as Emperor Joseph, Lucy Cohu (from *Becoming Jane*) as Cecilia Weber, and Jonathan Aris (*The Sixth Commandment*) as Leopold Mozart, joining the previously announced cast members Sharpe, Bettany, and Creevy.

Sharpe described how he prepared to play Mozart, explaining to TopMob that because there’s no video footage of the composer, he focused on his music. He found the music reflected Mozart’s complex personality – sometimes majestic and somber, and other times lighthearted and cheerful, revealing a fascinating mix of traits.
