The music community has lost the mastermind behind some of their best dance moves.
Paul Roberts, a well-known choreographer who worked with famous artists like One Direction, the Spice Girls, and Sam Smith, passed away on September 26th after fighting cancer. He was 52 years old.
A statement posted on the choreographer’s Instagram on September 28th announced that Paul died peacefully at home on the evening of September 26th, 2025, following a brave fight with cancer. The statement described his passing as graceful, much like his life. RIP.
Following the passing of the choreographer who worked with Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and the late Liam Payne throughout their time as a band, many of Paul’s colleagues and friends shared stories about their time with him.
Louis’ sister, Lottie Tomlinson, frequently joined her brother on tour, helping with the band’s hair and makeup. She reacted to the post with a crying and broken heart emoji. Meanwhile, Sandy Beales, One Direction’s guitarist, wrote, “He was an amazing man, truly one of the kindest people, and I’m sending all my love to his family!”
In other news, the artist known as the “Like I Can” singer – who collaborated with Paul on the 2018 Thrill of it All tour – also posted a message honoring him.
“This is truly devastating,” Sam wrote. “I’m sending all my love and support to Paul’s family and friends during this difficult time. Paul brought so much joy to everyone who knew him. I will always remember his generosity and vibrant personality. The impact he had on those he cared for will last forever. Paul will always be remembered.”
Even after One Direction took a break in late 2016, Harry stayed close to Paul, and they were seen having lunch together in London in early August. Their collaboration continued after the band split, notably on Harry’s 2021 music video for “Treat People With Kindness,” featuring Phoebe Waller-Bridge. This video won the choreographer an MTV Video Music Award.

In a 2021 Instagram post, Paul expressed his sincere gratitude for the music video and the work that went into making it. He also shared, about Harry, “most of all I’m grateful for this man’s loyalty, friendship and continued belief in me.”
