While the idea of connected movie and TV universes isn’t as new and exciting as it once was, it’s still enjoyable to see how different projects link together. In the DC Universe, shows like *Superman* and *Peacemaker*, though very different in style, share characters and events. Before the second season of *Peacemaker* began, James Gunn said it would directly follow the story of *Superman*. Now that fans know Gunn’s next DC movie, *Man of Tomorrow*, is coming in July 2027, they’re eager to see if *Peacemaker* offers any hints about what’s to come.
James Gunn recently discussed how the final episodes of *Peacemaker* Season 2 will fit into the new DC Universe during an interview on *The Ringer-Verse* podcast. He explained that he wants each project to be enjoyable on its own, without requiring viewers to watch previous content. However, he emphasized that Episode 8 of *Peacemaker* is particularly important for understanding the upcoming *Man of Tomorrow* project.
How Could Peacemaker Season 2 Connect to Man of Tomorrow?
With the second season of *Peacemaker* nearing its end, viewers are eagerly awaiting major developments within the new DC Universe. Critics only received the first five episodes, a strategic move to keep the final three episodes – and their surprises – under wraps. Many fans believe David Corenswet, who will play Superman, will appear in some way on *Peacemaker*, and recent comments from James Gunn are only fueling that speculation. If the season finale of *Peacemaker* is truly connected to the upcoming *Man of Tomorrow* film, we can expect some important links to the broader DC Universe to be revealed.
Although the new Superman movie is still almost two years away, details about the story are scarce. We do know that Superman and Lex Luthor will be forced to work together to face a serious danger. This means Lex Luthor has been released from prison, but how remains a mystery. It’s possible his release is linked to the strange dimensional rifts seen in the *Peacemaker* series and the idea of a multiverse. There are parallels between the rifts Luthor created in the previous *Superman* movie and those appearing in *Peacemaker*. Rick Flag Sr., desperate to understand this technology, may have reached out to Luthor for help. Lex’s knowledge of alternate dimensions and rifts could be exactly what Flag needs to figure things out.
One idea is that Season 2 of *Peacemaker* could set up the main villain for a future *Man of Tomorrow* story. We don’t know yet what threat will force Superman and Lex Luthor to team up, but it will clearly be something incredibly powerful. Maybe a metahuman from *Peacemaker*’s world crosses over into the main DC Universe by the end of the season, making Superman and Luthor join forces to defend Earth. All this talk of different dimensions could also draw the attention of a villain like Brainiac, who’s always looking to expand his knowledge, especially about alternate realities.
These significant developments might appear to contradict James Gunn’s aim of keeping the DC Universe accessible, but connections between different projects are natural in a shared universe. Gunn successfully made *Superman* and *Peacemaker* stand on their own, suggesting he’s already planned how the upcoming *Man of Tomorrow* will be enjoyable even for those unfamiliar with *Peacemaker*. The final three episodes seem to offer more than just simple Easter eggs and references, which is a promising sign for the future of the DCU.
