As a total movie and TV buff, I’ve noticed everything’s getting rebooted these days – even classic sitcoms! Hollywood’s really been leaning into nostalgia lately, bringing back shows we all loved from years ago with new versions. There was this one ’80s sitcom that got a fresh take a few years back, but if you want to check it out, you’ll have to hurry – it’s leaving Peacock soon!
The original Night Court was a hugely popular sitcom in the 1980s. Thirty years after it ended in 1992, NBC brought the show back with a reboot focusing on Judge Abby Stone, the daughter of the beloved Harry Stone. However, the reboot only lasted three seasons, from 2023 until NBC canceled it because of budget and scheduling issues. While Peacock once had all seasons available, they now only stream the final season, and those episodes will be removed on November 19th. Currently, the show isn’t available on any other major streaming service.
Night Court Is the Reboot We Didn’t Need
The original Night Court, created by Reinhold Weege, is a beloved sitcom and considered one of the best of the 1980s. Some might argue that it was best left as is. While NBC’s recent revival successfully tapped into viewers’ fondness for the original, it gradually lost the charm of the first series. The reboot started strong, earning a 74
The original show’s appeal came from the fantastic connection between its lead actors, something the reboot couldn’t recapture, particularly after the loss of Harry Anderson, Markie Post, and Charles Robinson. The reboot also strayed from the original’s signature quirky cases and memorable characters, which contributed to its failure to deliver the same sharp, offbeat humor.
Despite its flaws, the reboot successfully continued the original story, offering a new spin on a beloved classic. While we missed the original actors, the new cast had fantastic chemistry. It’s just a shame the show was cut short and didn’t get the satisfying conclusion it deserved, leaving several storylines unresolved.
Where to Stream Night Court After It Leaves HBO Max?
The new version of Night Court isn’t available on popular streaming services, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find. You can watch Season 3 on NBC’s website, but Seasons 1 and 2 aren’t currently offered there. The entire series is available to rent or purchase on platforms like Prime Video. As for the original Night Court, different seasons are spread across various services, including Prime Video and Philo.
