The popular 2017 crime drama, Fearless, starring the late Helen McCrory, is now available to watch in its entirety on Netflix.
Helen McCrory, best known for her iconic role as Polly Gray in *Peaky Blinders*, plays Emma Banville.
Emma, a human rights lawyer, begins representing Kevin Russell, a man convicted of murder who insists he’s innocent. As she investigates, she starts to reveal unsettling details about the case.
The show, originally broadcast on ITV, features Jonathan Forbes, John Bishop, and Wunmi Mosaku in addition to the main cast.
The series was created by Patrick Harbinson, known for his work on Homeland. When the show was first announced in 2016, he described it as a legal thriller that explores the intense intersection of law and politics.
Over the past decade, a lot of my work on American television shows like *24*, *Person of Interest*, and *Homeland* has focused on how life changed after the 9/11 attacks (and the 7/7 London bombings). The response to the ‘War on Terror’ has really strained the normal processes of the legal system.
Helen McCrory recalled being inspired by the British TV show *Prime Suspect* while at drama school, praising its pioneering portrayal of strong, leading female characters.
I thought ‘Fearless’ was a really interesting thriller. It begins as this intimate story, but then it unexpectedly expands, taking you all over the world and exploring so many different cultures. It really broadened its scope as it went on.
