Peaky Blinders sequel seasons planned by Steven Knight while writing new film: “It’s a stepping stone”

While “Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man” is being presented as the end of this particular story arc for the Shelby family, it definitely won’t be the last we see of the Peaky Blinders universe.

The show is continuing with a sequel! Last year, it was confirmed that not one, but two new seasons were approved. These seasons will follow a new generation of the Shelby family and will be set in 1953, thirteen years after the events of the recent movie.

Fans were surprised by the announcement, as they had thought the story of the Birmingham gangsters had already reached its conclusion with the recent film.

However, according to the show’s creator, Steven Knight, the movie was always intended to connect the events of the earlier and later storylines.

In an interview with TopMob at the Birmingham premiere of his new film last week, Knight shared that he was already aware the show would be renewed while he was writing the movie’s script.

When asked if he knew how the TV series would end while writing the script, he explained that he’d always seen it as a way to move on to other projects.

When asked if viewers should watch the film for clues about the upcoming series, he confirmed that there’s much more story to tell.

Although we don’t have much to work with, it looks like the movie’s events will likely play a role in the series, even with the significant time gap between them.

The upcoming show’s summary, originally shared in October 2025, describes a 1953 Britain where Birmingham is being rebuilt with concrete and steel following the extensive damage it sustained during World War II.

The world of Peaky Blinders returns with a new chapter, focusing on a fierce power struggle for control of Birmingham’s ambitious rebuilding plans. The city is full of both incredible opportunities and serious threats, and the Shelby family finds itself at the center of all the violence and ambition.

Knight expressed his excitement about beginning a new phase for the Peaky Blinders saga.

The story returns to Birmingham, focusing on the city’s rebuilding after the bombing raids of World War II. A new generation of the Shelby family is now in charge, and their journey promises to be dramatic and exciting.

We’re waiting for official news about the cast, including if any actors from the original show or movie will be involved. We’ll share any updates as soon as we have them.

Filming for the new series began last week, as reported by What’s on Netflix, but a release date hasn’t been announced yet.

The new Peaky Blinders film, ‘The Immortal Man’, is currently showing in select UK cinemas and will be available to stream on Netflix starting Friday, March 20, 2026. Netflix subscriptions start at £5.99 per month and are also accessible through Sky Glass and Virgin Media.
