If you haven’t heard yet, Zach Cregger’s new horror movie, “Weapons”, has been added to the 2025 film lineup and it’s a must-watch! The movie features an exceptional storyline and a stellar cast including Julia Garner, Benedict Wong, Austin Abrams, Alden Ehrenreich, and Josh Brolin. However, the final cast could have been entirely different – before Brolin signed on, Pedro Pascal was originally slated for the role. Unfortunately, Pascal couldn’t take the part, but he did express his support for the film during its opening weekend by dropping an F-bomb!
How Pedro Celebrated the Movie’s Release
The Fantastic Four: First Steps star marked the occasion on Instagram, posting a playful shoutout to his MCU co-star’s new horror flick and its strong box office debut. In the Story post (shared below), he urged fans to catch the film in theaters, dropping a well-placed F-bomb or two for emphasis.
He mentioned Cregger, Garner, and the official Weapons account, demonstrating no lingering resentment but rather an abundance of affection for a project he continues to strongly support.
Why Pascal Had To Drop Out Of The Horror Movie
Initially, the movie “Weapons” appeared set to have a distinctly different appearance due to an almost entirely new cast. However, the two significant Hollywood shutdowns in 2023 – the SAG-AFTRA strike (from July 14 to November 9) and the WGA strike (from May 2 to September 27) – halted production completely. As a result, when filming for “Weapons” eventually resumed, the original shooting schedule was in disarray. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, writer-director Zach Cregger shared this information.
Originally, we had an entirely distinct group of actors for this film. However, the strike occurred, followed by Pedro Pascal’s scheduling conflicts, causing quite a commotion. As a result, I was forced to make changes and find new actors for the entire movie.
From the initial group of four characters, only Abrams remained, portraying James – a homeless man with a drug addiction. Cregger took over the role previously held by Pascal, and the new cast was completed with Alden Ehrenreich as local cop Paul, Amy Madigan and Julia Garner as Ms. Justine Gandy, a teacher whose entire class mysteriously vanished at 2:17 a.m.
Weapons Lives Up To All The Hype
Similar to the madness portrayed in “Barbarian,” the movie “Weapons” grips you with a spine-tingling concept: 17 children from the same Pennsylvania classroom mysteriously disappear one night, leaving their homes without a sound or trace. The story that follows is a blend of mystery and terror, structured in an unconventional manner much like Quentin Tarantino’s 1990s masterpiece “Pulp Fiction.” With its successful opening weekend, it appears that Zach Cregger’s second film is already meeting the high expectations set by the buzz.
Although fans might often ponder how Pascal’s portrayal of Archer would have been – particularly given his current array of “father” characters – his expletive-laced cheer seems authentic, as if he’s moved from the main stage to the audience seats instead.
