In a recent discussion, actor Pedro Pascal, who is set to portray Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, pondered on how his character would interact with Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man. The debut of Pascal’s Reed will be seen in the forthcoming film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and he is also scheduled to appear in Avengers: Doomsday.
Reed Richards can match Tony Stark’s intellect but not his charisma
Pedro Pascal, during a recent interview with ComicBook, discussed how his character would react to Tony Stark’s intelligence and charm. He expressed, “Goodness gracious, I (Reed) would have been utterly bewildered by him (Tony). I think I wouldn’t have even managed to engage in conversation with him, let alone keep up with his level of banter.
In addition, the actor expressed, “If he were open to discussing science, it would be my utopia. However, if he were presiding over a gathering, I’d simply become a spectator, I believe.
As a huge fan, I’d like to share my thoughts on an intriguing observation: The Emmy-nominated actor hinted at a meeting point for Reed Richards and Tony Stark when discussing their scientific pursuits in conversation. In “The Avengers,” Tony Stark and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk forged a bond through their mutual passion for science and the thrill of unexplored possibilities. Although it seems plausible that the contrast between their charisma could be a point of division, there is another aspect of their personalities that may resonate with each character.
In Avengers: Endgame (2019), Tony Stark, who is a father, decides not to participate with the group aiming to reverse Thanos’ actions from Avengers: Infinity War (2018). Meanwhile, in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, it appears that Reed Richards becomes Franklin Richards’ father through Ada Scott.
Instead of Tony Stark, it’s Pascal’s Reed (presumably referring to Reed Richards) who is anticipated to face off against Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, a character who is Reed’s main rival in the comics. Moreover, Kevin Feige hinted that Tony Stark might be played by a different actor in the future within the MCU. Consequently, there’s a possibility for an encounter between this upcoming version of Tony and Reed.
The movie “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” premieres in U.S. cinemas on July 25, 2025. The film “Avengers: Doomsday” is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.
