It’s been seven years, but Star Wars is back in movie theaters! The new trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu proves the franchise is making a stylish return. The Mandalorian was a huge success for Star Wars, especially as it launched the series on Disney+. Now, Disney is focusing on theatrical releases again, bringing Star Wars back where it belongs – on the big screen.
Directed by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian and Grogu takes place about five or six years after Return of the Jedi. While the Empire was thought to be gone, criminals and pirates thrived as the New Republic tried to gain control of the galaxy. At the end of The Mandalorian Season 3, Din Djarin committed to working solely for the Republic, putting him directly in the path of a surprising return of the Empire.
10. Din Djarin Is Flying with the New Republic in The Mandalorian and Grogu
The trailer for the new Mandalorian and Grogu season starts with a surprise: Din Djarin appears to be working with the New Republic, even letting one of their droids help him navigate. Given the Empire is regaining power, it’s logical that Din would side with the Republic instead of those who pursued Grogu for so long.
9. Din Djarin Confronts the Twins from The Book of Boba Fett

The Twins, first seen in The Book of Boba Fett, have become important characters in the promotion of the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu season. They seem to be the type of criminals Din Djarin will be tracking down for the New Republic, and they’re a powerful group, already established as being involved in dangerous fighting competitions.
8. “Long Live the Empire”

Din Djarin is doing more than just tracking down criminals. He’s been assigned to eliminate key figures within the remains of the Empire – powerful leaders who survived its fall. However, these leaders aren’t acting alone; they’re secretly working together under a hidden Imperial Council, guided by the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn, a brilliant military strategist who was banished from the galaxy years ago. The latest trailer includes the phrase “Long live the Empire,” hinting at a dangerous future and the Empire’s continued influence.
We don’t have much information about the Imperial leaders Din Djarin is tracking. However, the snowy landscape in the background appears to be the same planet shown in the first Mandalorian and Grogu trailer—specifically, the exciting scenes of him battling AT-ATs. This suggests a significant Imperial presence and operation is taking place there.
7. The Stakes are Higher than Ever Before in The Mandalorian and Grogu

The new trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu shows more of Din Djarin and Grogu’s encounter with Colonel Ward, a New Republic leader portrayed by Sigourney Weaver. Colonel Ward explains the seriousness of the situation, warning that the galaxy could be on the verge of another war and this mission is a final attempt to stop it. Considering The Mandalorian and Grogu will be followed by Season 2 of Ahsoka, which features large-scale spaceship battles between the Imperial and Republic fleets, it seems likely that Din Djarin and Grogu won’t succeed in their mission.
6. An Old Separatist Outpost – Complete With Battle Droids

The new trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu reveals a surprising location: an abandoned Separatist base filled with battle droids. These droids are from the Clone Wars era, and it looks like Din Djarin is somehow in charge of them. This could explain the appearance of the Anzellans, skilled droid experts from Nevarro, who might be able to reactivate and reprogram the old droid army to fight alongside Din.
5. The Return of Embo, a Clone Wars Bounty Hunter

The new trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu shows Embo, a dangerous bounty hunter from the Clone Wars era. He’s tracking Din Djarin, and whoever hired him must be offering a huge reward – Embo had already retired and needed a lot of money to come back into action. The trailer suggests Embo is attacking Din Djarin’s home on Nevarro.
4. The Mandalorian and Grogu Features a Lot More of Pedro Pascal

The latest trailer revealed a surprising moment: Din Djarin takes off his helmet, showing Pedro Pascal’s face more than fans anticipated. This likely boosts the show’s marketing, given Pascal’s popularity, but it’s also significant to the story. Din belongs to a group of Mandalorians who strictly adhere to never removing their helmets, and being unmasked is considered deeply shameful.
3. Grogu’s Destiny Foreshadowed – Will He Return to the Jedi?

Grogu started his life as a Jedi trainee, but he decided to stay with Din Djarin instead of continuing down that path. However, recent trailers suggest this choice might not be permanent. They hint that Grogu will outlive Din and is actively seeking greater power through the Force, even meditating in a place that feels similar to the powerful, Force-rich planet Dagobah – much like Yoda once did. This strongly implies Grogu may still be fated to become a Jedi.
2. Din Djarin Versus Rotta the Hutt

The new trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu revisits the story involving the Hutt family, showing Din Djarin fighting as a gladiator against Rotta the Hutt – Jabba’s son. Rotta, who was first seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and is now voiced by Jeremy Allen White, appears to be a powerful character. In fact, he’s been highlighted as one of the main stars of the show, alongside Pedro Pascal and Giancarlo Esposito.
1. Zeb Returns in Live-Action – But Has Adelphi Base Been Attacked?

I’m really excited to see Zeb Orrelios, voiced by Steve Blum, back! He’s a veteran from Star Wars Rebels and now he’s flying for the New Republic, stationed on the Outer Rim planet Adelphi – the same place as Colonel Ward. He’s definitely involved in a lot of action, and a lot of it seems to be happening right on Adelphi. I have a feeling the remnants of the Empire might be planning a strike soon, and it looks like Zeb will be right in the middle of it.
