People’s Sexiest Man Alive Weighs in on Batman DCU Casting: “It’s a Legacy”

Jonathan Bailey is open to the possibility of playing Batman in the new DC Universe. The actor has had a fantastic year, starring in the popular film Jurassic World: Rebirth and the upcoming movie Wicked for Good, which will be released on November 21, 2025. He was also recently named People‘s Sexiest Man Alive, and many DC fans are now suggesting he’d be a great fit for the role of Batman.

When Bailey appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to celebrate being named People‘s Sexiest Man Alive, Jimmy Fallon asked if he’d ever be interested in playing Batman. Bailey didn’t directly answer, instead discussing the importance of the Batman character. However, he did hint that he’d be willing to work with director James Gunn. Fallon also playfully suggested he could play Robin, and Bailey responded with:

I’d definitely consider playing Batman. I watched Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, and Robert Pattinson all take on the role growing up, so it’s an iconic part. Plus, I think James Gunn is a fantastic filmmaker.

Robert Pattinson will continue to play Batman in the sequel to The Batman, but this won’t be connected to the new DC Universe being created by James Gunn. This means the search for a new Batman for the DCU – alongside the search for the next James Bond – is expected to be a major topic of discussion. Several actors, including Alan Ritchson and Brandon Sklenar, have expressed interest in the role. Jonathan Bailey, however, isn’t actively campaigning for the part, but has acknowledged fan support. While The Brave and the Bold, the film that will introduce the DCU’s Batman, is currently being written, James Gunn has stated that casting won’t begin until the script is finalized. So, it will likely be a while before we find out who will play Batman in the new DC Universe.

If Bailey were to play Batman, he’d be the third actor named People‘s Sexiest Man Alive to take on the role. George Clooney, who starred in Batman & Robin and made a cameo in The Flash, earned the title twice, in 1997 and 2006. Ben Affleck was named Sexiest Man Alive in 2002, before he played Batman in the DC Extended Universe. Bailey would also be the second openly gay actor to portray Batman, following the legendary Kevin Conroy, who famously voiced the character in numerous animated projects and live-action appearances, including the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” event.

Jeremy Allen White is currently enjoying a lot of success, especially with the anticipated 2025 release of Wicked for Good. This success will likely make him a highly sought-after actor for leading roles. He’s expected to have many opportunities available for quite some time. Many believe he would be an excellent choice to play Bruce Wayne/Batman alongside David Corenswet as Superman in the DC Universe.
