While Disney+ is known for its Marvel and Star Wars shows, Percy Jackson and the Olympians has become a surprising hit. The series, based on Rick Riordan’s books, was quickly renewed for a second season after its first episodes aired, and even received a Season 3 order before Season 2 began! Now, Disney+ has released the official trailer for Season 2, giving fans a new look at what’s to come – and it appears the show has received a bigger budget for this season.
The second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be based on the second book, The Sea of Monsters. Several new actors will join the cast, including Andra Day as Athena, Daniel Diemer as Tyson the cyclops, and Tamara Smart as Thalia Grace. Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal, and Margaret Cho will play the Gray Sisters. Sadly, following the passing of Lance Reddick, Courtney B. Vance will now play the role of Zeus.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 Gets a Bigger Budget
Fans of Percy Jackson and the Olympians were excited for the new trailer, but they were blown away by the latter half, which showcased impressive visual effects and action sequences fitting for a big summer movie. Many immediately noticed the apparent increase in the show’s budget, with one fan commenting on X (formerly Twitter), “Is anyone else seeing this budget increase?!” Another fan interpreted this as a sign of Disney’s confidence in the series, confidently predicting, “This budget increase means we’re definitely getting all five seasons!”
Though Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is almost here, excitement for Season 3 is already building. Disney+ quickly renewed the show and has been gradually sharing news about the upcoming season, including new actors and plot details.
The third season will be based on the book The Titan’s Curse, and several new actors are joining the cast. Kate McKinnon, known from Saturday Night Live, will play Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. Dafne Keen, who starred in Logan and Deadpool & Wolverine, will portray Artemis, the goddess of the moon and the hunt, and Saara Chaudry will play Zoë Nightshade, an immortal hunter who serves as Artemis’ second-in-command. While a release date hasn’t been announced, filming has already begun, so fans can probably expect updates soon.
The second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will begin streaming on Disney+ and Hulu with the first two episodes available on December 10th.
