Becoming pregnant with her first child has given Elsie Hewitt a new perspective, and she’s sharing what she’s learned with boyfriend Pete Davidson.
As someone who shares a lot of my life, I recently opened up about navigating pregnancy with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome – it’s a genetic condition that impacts how my body’s connective tissues work. I asked for advice from others, and I wanted to give everyone an update on what it’s been like managing the chronic pain throughout this journey.
Elsie recently shared on Instagram that she’s received countless messages from women with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome who are currently or have been pregnant and are experiencing similar challenges. She explained that she hadn’t realized how many of her symptoms could be connected to her condition.
The 29-year-old expressed gratitude to everyone who shared their stories, and said she’s discovering a lot about herself as a result of going through this.
Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) causes joints to be overly flexible and unstable, leading to ongoing pain, according to The Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Society. It’s a genetic condition passed down from parent to child, and only one parent needs to carry the gene for their children to potentially inherit it.
And, according to Elsie, she’s been in “absolute agony pretty much 24/7” since becoming pregnant.
In a video posted to her Instagram Stories on November 14th, she shared that she was experiencing daily, intense pain and didn’t see how things could possibly get any harder.

Elsie explained she’s attempted various methods to cope with her pain, such as exercise, stretching, physical therapy, acupuncture, energy healing, and steroid injections. She also pointed out a strong connection between Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and endometriosis, a condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus.
She explained she was reaching out on Instagram hoping to connect with someone who understands pregnancy and childbirth while living with Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. She was particularly worried about long-term pain and asked if it improves after giving birth, and expressed her fear of serious complications.

Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE this! I just found out that Adam Devine still deals with pain from when he was hit by a cement truck when he was eleven years old! Seriously, a cement truck! It’s just… incredible and awful that something that happened so long ago is still bothering him. I feel so bad for him, but also, it just makes me admire him even more, knowing he pushes through it all!
You won’t BELIEVE what I heard on Graham Bensinger’s podcast! Devine was talking, and honestly, it broke my heart. Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, despite its downsides, because it helped her discover a health issue. After noticing online comments about her “puffier” face during interviews, she was surprised to see doctors commenting, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome. They pointed out changes in her appearance that prompted her to realize she’d been receiving steroid injections after a breast reduction and C-section. These injections ultimately led to the condition, which she wouldn’t have known about without the online feedback. In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly started having stroke-like symptoms, including difficulty speaking and a drooping face. Hailey initially couldn’t respond when Justin asked if she was okay, and then found she couldn’t form a sentence. Although the symptoms eventually subsided, she went to the hospital for tests. Doctors discovered she had a small blood clot in her brain, which they identified as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). Further testing at UCLA revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). The blood clot had traveled through this hole and reached her brain, causing the TIA. Hailey underwent a successful procedure to close the PFO and is now doing well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition that caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the remaining dates of his Justice World Tour.
In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained that the virus affected the nerves in his ear and face, preventing him from blinking, smiling, or moving his nostril on the affected side. He also shared that it was becoming increasingly difficult for him to eat.
Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey shared on Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well and feeling much better, adding that they were grateful he was going to be okay. It had been a frightening and unexpected situation, but he was expected to make a full recovery.

He initially saw a doctor who gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, grew concerned and took him to the hospital. There, doctors discovered he’d had a brain bleed that led to a stroke.

While filming the series, she experienced a sudden and severe headache while at the gym. She described collapsing and being violently ill, realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.
A hospital scan quickly revealed a subarachnoid hemorrhage – a life-threatening stroke caused by bleeding around the brain. She had suffered an aneurysm, a rupture in an artery. Emilia underwent immediate surgery to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she experienced aphasia, leaving her unable to speak coherently.
Though the aphasia eventually passed and she was discharged after a month, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had doubled in size, requiring a second surgery. This procedure initially failed, causing a massive bleed and putting her life at risk. Doctors had to perform a more invasive surgery, accessing her brain directly through her skull.
