Actor Peter Heppelthwaite has died at the age of 59, it has been confirmed.
He was most famous for playing characters in the popular TV shows EastEnders and The Green Green Grass, which was a spin-off of Only Fools and Horses.
His agency, Apollo Artist Management, announced his passing and remembered him as a remarkably talented actor, director, and educator who guided and inspired many.
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our valued client and friend, Peter Heppelthwaite, who passed away yesterday.
Peter was an incredibly talented actor, director, and educator who also mentored many people. He was known for his kindness and willingness to share his gifts with others, going above and beyond just his professional work.
He was a truly special person who approached everything with humor, kindness, and dedication. He had a remarkable gift for making others feel valued, encouraged, and happier simply by knowing him.
Peter worked in television, theater, and movies throughout his career, but he’s remembered for more than just the roles he played. He generously supported fellow performers, particularly helping young actors develop their skills and find their own unique style.
As a huge movie fan, I always felt like Peter was one of those actors who truly lived his roles – he brought so much passion to everything he did, and you could tell he genuinely connected with people. It’s heartbreaking to hear he’s gone, but what an incredible legacy he leaves behind. Everyone who had the chance to work with him or even just meet him was touched by his kindness and talent. My heart goes out to his family, friends, students, coworkers, and all his fans – we’re all feeling this loss.
“Rest peacefully, Pete. You will be very deeply missed.”
After studying at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in 1999, Heppelthwaite began his television career with a role in Two Point Four Children. He later appeared in well-known shows like London’s Burning, The Bill, My Family, and The Office.
Despite other roles, he’s most remembered for playing Jed the farm worker in ‘The Green Green Grass,’ a show about Boycie and Marlene starting over on a farm, and for his part as market trader Linal in ‘EastEnders’.
The actor also appeared on stage in West End productions such as Sunset Boulevard and Miss Saignon.

Later in his career, Heppelthwaite dedicated himself to teaching and mentoring, even co-founding and running the Limitless Academy of Performing Arts in Royston.
The drama school shared on Instagram that Peter’s love of acting and commitment to his students fostered a wonderful and unique environment. They posted this following the sad news of his death.
I’ll always remember him for how he saw potential in everyone who came through those doors. He didn’t just teach skills; he genuinely believed in us, which gave so many students – young and old – the confidence to really explore their creativity and find their own voice. It was incredibly inspiring.
Peter wasn’t just the person who started this – he guided, encouraged, and befriended countless people. We’ll feel the positive effect he had on our students, team, and families for a long time.
