Cooper Hoffman knows his dad was the master.
Certainly, the offspring of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman expressed that it holds significant importance for him to continue his father’s legacy in the film industry. However, this responsibility also imposes additional pressure on him to avoid any mistakes.
The 22-year-old stated during a September 5 interview on Today, “Given that we have an Oscar in our home, and not everyone can claim that, it’s been staring at me for a long time. I don’t want to venture into acting and not live up to the performance of that individual who won it.
10-year-old Cooper, who lost actor Heath Ledger in 2014 at age 46 from The Hunger Games, mentioned that his achievement in 2021’s Licorice Pizza (his debut role, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination) made him believe he was on the right career path.
As he put it, “I kept doing movies and I’ve realized that this is where I want to be right now.”
Nevertheless, The Long Walk star confessed that he might not dedicate his entire career to acting and could potentially leave Hollywood in the future.
He continued, “This may not be where I wish to spend the remainder of my life.” He also mentioned, “Time will tell; I’ll keep doing it until I no longer wish to do so.
Currently, I’m overjoyed with my path, and it seems my father, who was a cherished dad not just to me but also to Tallulah Hoffman and Willa Hoffman, and longtime partner Mimi O’Donnell, is still gracefully steering me forward on this journey.
He mentioned that his go-to choice is ‘The Master.’ Before embarking on any film production, he always takes time to rewatch it. He admires it immensely because it encompasses everything – love, relationships, friendships, parental guidance, and even elements of the supernatural, making it a rich tapestry of all essential themes.
At present, Cooper is happy with his current situation, and his father – who was also a parent to Tallulah Hoffman and Willa Hoffman alongside longtime partner Mimi O’Donnell – continues to provide guidance for him.
He mentioned that “The Master” is his preferred choice. He always watches it prior to filming a movie, and he emphasized, “It’s simply the best. It encompasses everything – love, relationships, friendship, mentorship, the supernatural, and much more.
