Pierce Brosnan stars in gripping first look trailer for “remarkable” boxing true story film

The first trailer is out for ‘Giant,’ a new movie based on the incredible life of boxing legend Prince Naseem Hamed.

The movie tells the story of boxer Naz, played by El-Masry (known for Wolf Hall), and his trainer Brendan Ingle, portrayed by Pierce Brosnan. It follows Naz’s career, from his early days to becoming a celebrated British Muslim athlete in the 1990s, showcasing both his triumphs and challenges.

I just watched the trailer, and it’s really got me hooked! It seems Brendan is taking Naz, this young boxer, under his wing. He tells him straight up, ‘Look, I’ve seen a hundred guys walk through that door hoping for a shot, but you have something they don’t.’ It’s a classic mentor-mentee setup, and that line really highlights Naz’s potential, you know?

In another scene, Brendan tells him: “They hate you because you’re different. Embrace it”.

The film also delves into the complicated connection between Naz and Brendan, showing how it falls apart as Naz’s star rises.

In the video, Naz accuses Brendan of taking credit for her achievements. Brendan replies, calling her selfish and arrogant.

Brendan retorts: “You nurtured that arrogance.”

The film also stars Katherine Dow Blyton as Alma Ingle, Olivia Barrowclough as Vicki Quinn, Elika Ashoori as Caira Hamed, Austin Haynes as Trev, and Rocco Haynes as Mikey, joining El-Masry and Brosnan in the cast.

Rowan Athale, known for his work on the series Gangs of London, wrote the screenplay for Giant. Sylvester Stallone, famous for Rocky, is an executive producer on the film.

The movie is inspired by the incredible true story of Prince Naseem Hamed, a famous boxing champion from Britain with Yemeni roots.

The film tells the incredible story of Naz, who rose from a difficult childhood in Sheffield to become a world champion and a global sports icon in the 1990s. It focuses on his close and unexpected bond with his boxing trainer, Brendan Ingle, and how Ingle was essential to his journey to the top.

Giant is coming to UK cinemas on 9th January 2026.
