Pikmin – New Project in the Franchise Teased With a Video, Confirmed With Nintendo Today Post

Nintendo appears to be preparing a new game for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, likely a new installment in the *Pikmin* series. They recently released a short teaser video called “Close to You” that suggests a new *Pikmin* title is in development. You can watch the teaser video below.

The short preview focuses on a baby left briefly alone who loses their pacifier. The teaser shows the pacifier mysteriously moving away, and the baby trying to crawl after it. A gentle piano melody plays throughout, highlighting the baby’s early attempts to learn how to walk and creating a sweet, emotional tone.

Although the initial teaser didn’t explicitly mention it, Nintendo has now released a version on its Nintendo Today app that confirms it’s for a new *Pikmin* game. The original teaser did offer some clues, though – *Pikmin* games typically feature small creatures interacting with everyday objects, and the teaser included familiar music from the *Pikmin* series.

Currently, you can’t share posts directly from the Nintendo Today app. However, the recent release of a special *Pikminthemed version of the ‘Close to You’ teaser suggests Nintendo plans to make posts shareable online in the near future.

Nintendo hasn’t said for sure what the recent teaser is for. It could be a completely new *Pikmin* game, extra content for *Pikmin 4* on a potential new Switch console, or even a separate game featuring the Pikmin in a different kind of adventure.

In 2023, Takashi Tezuka, the producer of *Pikmin 4*, hinted that another game in the *Pikmin* series wouldn’t be far behind. He stated in an interview that the development team wouldn’t want fans to wait a long time for the next installment.

The *Pikmin* series began in 2001 with the first game on the GameCube. It follows Captain Olimar, who crashes on an unknown planet and loses his ship. *Pikmin* was unique for being a real-time strategy game playable with a controller, and it heavily emphasized solving puzzles using the environment.

In *Pikmin 2*, Olimar returns to the first game’s planet with his new partner, Louie, on a quest to find valuable treasures. Critics loved this sequel because it improved upon the original *Pikmin* while adding fresh, innovative gameplay and puzzles. *Pikmin 3* was released in 2013 for the Wii U, and it uniquely used the console’s GamePad controller to give players greater command over their Pikmin.
