NetEase, a major publisher, and developer Joker Studio are aiming high with their upcoming pirate role-playing game, Sea of Remnants, and have ambitious goals for its release.
Announced last summer, this game immediately seemed packed with content. It’s a sprawling adventure you can play solo or online, featuring a large open world. You’ll engage in strategic, turn-based battles on land, fast-paced naval combat, tons of side activities, and the responsibility of managing your ship’s crew.
Plus, the game is free to play, which is a big deal, since they plan to consistently add new content and features – and they’re not holding back!
TechRadar reports that Sea of Remnants will get a new “season” every 10 weeks, or about every two and a half months. Larger expansions are planned to release every 20 weeks.
Maintaining that level of content is challenging, even for very successful online games. The real test now is whether the game can attract and keep enough players to justify continuing development and updates.
Joker Studio has confirmed that any purchases within the game will only be for cosmetic items, like those found in battle passes.
Sea of Remnants is coming sometime this year, and a closed alpha test for PC will begin this month. We should see some first looks and player feedback soon after.
