I was excited to see what PlayStation Plus games were coming this month, and they just announced nine new titles! That brings the total for this month to ten, since one game was already released. It’s always a great day when they reveal the lineup – I can’t wait to check these out!
Nine games will be added for subscribers on December 16th. Players with the Extra subscription tier will have access to nine games, and those with the Premium tier will get one additional classic game. Skate Story is already available – it launched on the Extra tier on December 8th.
Here is the the full list:
PS Plus Extra Game Catalog
- Assassin’s Creed Mirage
- Wo Long Fallen Dynasty
- Skate Story (already out)
- Granblue Fantasy: Relink
- Planet Coaster 2
- Cat Quest III
- LEGO Horizon Adventures
- Paw Patrol: Grand Prix
- Paw Patrol World
PS Plus Classics (Premium Only)
- Soulcalibur III
With the exception of LEGO Horizon Adventures, Skate Story, and Planet Coaster 2, all games in the lineup are available on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Plus, Wo Long and Assassin’s Creed Mirage let players transfer save data between the two consoles, which is great for trophy hunters who don’t mind a little extra save file organization.
Although Red Dead Redemption became available on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium on December 2nd, it was originally announced as a November game for subscribers.
While many of these games are older – Soulcalibur III launched way back in 2005 – Mirage recently received a significant update. Even though it’s over two years old, Ubisoft released a large, free expansion called Valley of Memory. This expansion takes players to AlUla, a region in Saudi Arabia, and features a new story and missions. Players have generally welcomed this unexpected free content, but some are questioning it because Ubisoft reportedly received funding from Savvy Games Group, a company linked to the Saudi Arabian government, to create Valley of Memory. Some critics believe this free addition, along with other entertainment and tourism efforts, is an attempt to distract from Saudi Arabia’s human rights record.
It’s a little unusual to see LEGO Horizon Adventures included this month because it’s also a free PlayStation Plus Essential game for December. This means PlayStation is offering the same LEGO game across all three of its subscription tiers. Players with Extra or Premium subscriptions can already get it if they claim it before January 6th. However, it’s a good addition for new subscribers to the higher tiers after December, as it will no longer be available as part of the Essential games selection.
Details about some of these games were revealed early. Dealabs reported on the addition of Mirage and Wo Long just hours before the official announcement.
