As a PlayStation Plus member, I was totally stoked to find out we’re getting what many consider the best PS3 game, for free! Sony just announced a bunch of new games – nine to start – coming to PS Plus Extra and Premium. But get this – there are actually ten games coming, they just didn’t announce one of them yet! And from what I’ve heard, that unannounced game is going to be a huge deal – maybe even the biggest addition of the whole bunch.
Determining the best PS3 game is always subjective, but several titles consistently come up in the conversation. Games like Mass Effect 2, The Last of Us, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, GTA 5, BioShock, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim are all strong contenders. While many excellent games exist for the console, only a few truly stand out as the best. GTA 5 is arguably the most commercially successful of these, though some prefer another Rockstar Games release: Red Dead Redemption. Often eclipsed by its sequel, Red Dead Redemption remains a fantastic game and is essential playing for any gaming enthusiast. If you haven’t experienced it yet, it’s currently available to play with a PS Plus Extra or Premium subscription.
New Release
This week, Rockstar Games revealed that Red Dead Redemption is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch 2, and mobile devices on December 2nd. PlayStation Plus subscribers will have access to the game through the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog at launch. The re-release isn’t just a simple port of the original PS3 game; it features a smoother framerate of 60fps, improved graphics, HDR support, and 4K resolution.
It’s unclear how long Red Dead Redemption will be available for free with PlayStation Plus. Rockstar Games usually offers its games on subscription services like PlayStation Plus for three or six months. We expect this to be the case here, but it hasn’t been officially confirmed.
