PlayStation Plus members are advised to be careful when downloading a free RPG game offered in October 2025. This game is currently available to claim with a PS Plus Extra or Premium subscription – the two higher tiers of the service. While it was briefly free for all PS Plus members (including those with the basic Essential tier) back in August, it’s now only available to those on the more expensive plans, so double-check before downloading.
Recently, Yakuza: Like a Dragon became available on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium. It was previously offered to all PlayStation Plus members as a free Essential game in August, and those Essential games you get to keep as long as you’re subscribed. However, games on Extra and Premium are only free for as long as they’re included in those services. Interestingly, the PlayStation Store allows you to download these Extra and Premium games even if you already ‘own’ them through PS Plus Essential. But doing so replaces your original license, meaning you’ll lose access to the game when it’s removed from the Extra and Premium libraries – unlike the permanently available Essential versions.
Sony Won’t Acknowledge the Issue
This problem has been happening for over a year, but Sony hasn’t fixed it or even publicly addressed it. It’s unclear if they know about it, but many PlayStation Plus members have experienced it and reported their frustration.
Until Sony resolves this problem – if they do at all – PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members should verify if a new free game from PS Plus Essential is already in their game library. The PlayStation Store doesn’t have a feature to check this automatically, so you’ll need to do it yourself each time.
A free game offered with PlayStation Plus Essential this month is receiving praise for its stunning graphics, with many calling it one of the best-looking games on PS5. It’s likely to become available on the Extra and Premium tiers of PS Plus soon, and hopefully any current problems will be resolved by then.
