PlayStation Plus subscribers are excited about the return of a highly-rated game from a series that last appeared on PS3 and PS4 twelve years ago, though PS5 players are frustrated they can’t access it. Many gamers feel the PS3 and PS4 years represented the best period for PlayStation’s own game development, citing both the quality and variety of titles released. They also point out that Sony used to consistently release new games, something that hasn’t happened as frequently lately.
The Infamous series, created by PlayStation studio Sucker Punch Productions, hasn’t had a new installment since 2014. Sucker Punch is known now for Ghost of Tsushima, and while they could revisit Infamous in the future, it seems increasingly unlikely given the success of Ghost of Tsushima and the length of time that has passed. Fortunately, PlayStation Plus subscribers can still play the existing Infamous games through the PS Plus service.
“It’s So Amazing”
Currently, the most popular post on the PlayStation Plus Reddit page is about Infamous First Light, the newest game in the series. For those unfamiliar, it’s a standalone expansion of Infamous Second Son that tells a story set before the main game. Released in 2014, shortly after Infamous Second Son, it was also exclusively available on PlayStation 4. When it first came out, it didn’t receive particularly strong reviews, earning a score of 73 on Metacritic, and sales were reportedly slow. However, even after 12 years, many players are now looking back on it with fondness.
I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this game as much as I do! I downloaded it yesterday just while looking through the PlayStation store, and I’m blown away by how good it looks. The colors are really bright and the graphics are incredibly sharp and beautiful. I also just learned that Sucker Punch developed it, which makes sense considering how fantastic it is.
It’s not surprising this post is getting so much attention – it really hits home for me, and a lot of other PlayStation Plus members seem to agree, judging by the comments.
One player described the movement in the game as “so much fun.” Another commenter shared that Second Son was the first game they played on their PS4 and called it beautiful, adding that this new game felt similar. Despite generally disliking open-world games, they found this one enjoyable.
If you’re interested in playing, Infamous First Light is included with PS Plus Extra and Premium subscriptions. It’s also been offered as a free game with the basic PS Plus Essential tier. If you don’t have a subscription, you can purchase it for $15.
