Pluribus star Rhea Seehorn reacts to shocking finale twist: “I wanted to throw up”

Rhea Seehorn, known for her role in Pluribus, has discussed how she felt about the shocking surprise at the end of the show’s hugely popular first season.

A major part of the story revolves around Carol Seehorn’s character attempting to avoid becoming controlled and assimilated into the collective consciousness.

Everyone believed Carol was safe because the Others needed her stem cells and couldn’t get them without her consent. However, the series finale revealed a shocking twist: the Others already have access to Carol’s frozen eggs, which also contain her stem cells.

The unexpected turn of events suggests that Carol might eventually become one of the Others, joining their collective consciousness. Actress Rhea Seehorn felt this was especially impactful because it happened through Zosia, making it feel like a deeply personal betrayal.

The surprising reveal wasn’t sudden; it was hinted at much earlier. Carol mentioned she’d frozen her eggs way back in the third episode of the season, called ‘Grenade’.

Carol Seehorn explains that a common pattern with the show’s writing – from Vince Gilligan, Gordon Smith, Alison Tatlock, and Jonny Gomez, among other talented writers – is that twists are often carefully prepared throughout the story.

After the initial release of ‘Grenade,’ fans quickly started developing theories about Carol’s frozen eggs. Some thought they might be used by ‘the Others’ to control her, while others hoped Carol could use them to undo what had been done. Unfortunately, the darker possibility usually turned out to be true.

Looking forward to the already-approved second season on Apple TV, actress Rhea Seehorn explains that the storyline involving her character, Carol, being manipulated can now progress without her character’s knowledge or agreement.

When it comes to the details of season 2’s storyline, Seehorn admits she’s just as clueless as the viewers. She jokes that it’s actually a relief, because she genuinely doesn’t know anything and can’t offer any hints – she’s eagerly awaiting the next script just like everyone else!

I really enjoyed the ending, and I’m eager to find out if she can get others to help her. She definitely can’t handle this alone, and I’m hoping she manages to recruit some people.
