Now that many players have finished the main story of Pokemon Legends: Z-A, there’s still plenty to do with side quests and other activities. Plus, the upcoming Mega Dimension DLC is generating excitement. This first expansion will add new story elements and characters to the game. One character, in particular, might bring back a popular feature from past Pokemon games.
I just watched the new Mega Dimension trailer, and I’m so excited for the story update coming on December 10th! It looks like a big part of it revolves around Hoopa and its ability to open portals to other dimensions. We’re also getting two new characters in Legends: Z-A, and one of them is this adorable young donut chef named Ansha. Apparently, her donuts aren’t just tasty – they actually help Hoopa open those hyperspace portals! But honestly, from the introduction of the new allies, it seems like making donuts might be a lot like crafting Poffins in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. I’m really curious to see how that plays out!
Pokemon Legends: Z-A Is Missing a Food Crafting Component, and I Miss It

I really enjoy cooking in video games – I’d happily play games like PlateUp! or Lemon Cake all the time. Several Pokémon games have included cooking features over the years, like curry-making in Pokémon Sword and Shield and sandwiches in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. However, even though food plays a big role in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the game doesn’t actually let you cook anything.
I first noticed Naveen’s sandwich during a Team MZ meeting and immediately wished the game let me create one myself. It looked like a perfect, classic Pokemon Scarlet and Violet sandwich, and the croissant curry was a surprisingly creative take on the dish. While Legends: Arceus didn’t feature full cooking, it did include some basic crafting. So, I’m wondering where that element is in Pokemon Legends: Z-A?
I’d honestly stopped expecting it, thinking I’d have to focus on clothes shopping instead of making food while visiting Lumiose City. But then I saw Ansha and her donuts, and it instantly reminded me of all the hours I spent in the Poffin House in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. It seems like the new Pokemon Legends: Z-A DLC might bring back a similar feature.
Ansha’s Donuts Are Giving Serious Poffin Vibes

The recent Mega Dimension trailer was full of exciting announcements, so it’s understandable if some details got overlooked. Along with the trailer, The Pokémon Company shared news about a new Diancie gift and other updates. However, if you carefully read through all the Pokémon news that day, you might have noticed a few extra screenshots featuring Ansha and her donuts, just like I did.
The Pokémon Company has shared details about the powerful donuts made by Ansha in the upcoming game. These donuts aren’t made with typical ingredients – they’re crafted from Berries! The effect each donut has will depend on which Berries were used. There are even brand new Hyperspace Berries to discover. For those who remember spending a lot of time making Poffins in previous games, this system might seem familiar. However, recent Pokémon games have sometimes removed interactive elements like Poffin making, so I was worried this might happen again – until I saw some screenshots that suggest the hands-on aspect is still present.

I was checking out some screenshots of the new Mega Dimension, and I noticed a menu for picking berries to make donuts! It even shows a breakdown of how different berry combinations affect the donut’s flavor – like how spicy, sweet, bitter, fresh, or sour it will be. Honestly, it reminds me a lot of making Poffins in older games. And there’s this ‘Make Donut’ button that I’m really hoping will launch a fun little mini-game when you click it!
The Poffin-making mini-game was easy to pick up but really fun. It involved carefully mixing berries – getting the speed and direction just right to avoid a mess – and then quickly spinning the controller to bake them perfectly. Seeing recent screenshots has me hoping the new donut-making with Ansha will be similar! Right now, we only know we’ll be gathering berries for the donuts, but I’m excited to see how much we’ll actually get to participate in the baking itself. I’m keeping my fingers crossed it’s as engaging as the Poffin game!
Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Mega Dimension will be released on December 10th and is available for pre-order now on the Nintendo website for $29.99.
