Many fans found *Pokemon Scarlet & Violet* to be a flawed game, despite its enjoyable characters and story. It launched with numerous glitches and performance issues, and while a Switch 2 update addressed some of these, it left players apprehensive about the next installment. *Pokemon Legends: Z-A* has largely impressed fans, though it does carry over a few elements from *Scarlet & Violet* that some would rather have seen changed.
A major criticism of *Pokemon Scarlet & Violet* was its open world feeling too empty. *Pokemon Legends: Z-A* seems to address this problem, though it takes a different approach. Instead of a truly open world, it features distinct zones within a single city. However, players might not be thrilled to find that the city streets are cluttered with items scattered everywhere ā a problem that many experienced in *Scarlet & Violet*.
Lumiose City Has a Bigger Litter Problem Than Paldea Did
Many players noticed just how many sparkly items were scattered around in *Pokemon Scarlet & Violet* ā you practically collected something new with every few steps! For some fans, this made finding items feel less special and took away from the sense of adventure and discovery found in older *Pokemon* games. Sadly, the developers didn’t address this abundance of easily-found items in the new release.
Too many items on the ground.

Older PokĆ©mon games made finding items feel like a real adventure. You had to carefully search for things like PokĆ© Balls and figure out how to reach them, and the reward was often something special. But in recent games, starting with Lumiose City, that feeling is mostly gone. While there are still a few hidden items, they donāt feel essential. Like *Scarlet & Violet* before it, *Legends: Z-A* just gives you plenty of items without much searching required.
Lumiose City is full of sparkling glitter spots and glowing Poke Balls. You’ll find them everywhere! Most of these itemsālike Pretty Feathers and Tiny Mushroomsāaren’t very valuable, but you can sell them for a good amount of money.
Too Many Items in Plain Sight Cheapens the Value of Exploration

Starting with a good amount of money is helpful for things like buying the clothes you want, but it can also make the game feel less challenging. You rarely struggle with money, except when you first visit a shop. Because of this, exploring the world doesn’t feel as satisfying, and you don’t need to search for items. You automatically collect everything you need just by walking around.
I donāt mind finding a decent amount of items, but in *Legends: Z-A* itās excessive. The map is small, so youāre constantly collecting things. There are lots of useful items like potions, and plenty of experience candies too. A lot of players donāt like this because it makes leveling up your team too fast and easy. Ultimately, having so many items scattered around doesn’t really benefit anyone.
While it’s not the most serious issue players have had with a PokĆ©mon game, it’s still annoying that this problem wasn’t fixed. Hopefully, the next PokĆ©mon game will make finding items more rewarding and enjoyable, like it used to be.
