As *Pokémon Scarlet* and *Violet* get older, free Pokémon giveaways have become common. The Pokémon Company uses Mystery Gift codes and special Tera Raids to keep players interested in these games. However, with the release of *Pokémon Legends: Z-A* coming this October, the latest free Pokémon distribution is a bit different. Even before *Legends: Z-A* is available, we already know about the code for the first free Pokémon gift!
The new Pokémon game, *Pokémon Legends: Z-A*, is launching on October 16th for both the Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. Today, The Pokémon Company also revealed that a special free Pokémon will be available to celebrate the launch. According to the Pokémon news site Serebii, players will be able to receive a code for a special Slowpoke in a Cherish Ball soon after *Pokémon Legends: Z-A* is released, alongside the latest shiny Pokémon for *Scarlet & Violet*.
How to Get the First Free Gift Code for Pokemon Legends: Z-A
The recent Pokemon distribution isn’t flashy, but there’s a good reason for that! A free Slowpoke is being given away in *Pokemon Legends: Z-A* to celebrate the opening of the new Kagawa Pokemon Center on October 24th, 2025. The distribution will begin just a week after *Legends: Z-A* is released. Since Slowpoke is the official mascot of the Kagawa region, it’s a fitting choice for this special event.
If you want a free Slowpoke in a Cherish Ball in *Pokemon Legends: Z-A*, you’ll need to put in a little effort. The distribution code will be available at Pokemon Centers across Japan, either through *Pokemon HOME* or printed on paper. But you can’t just ask for the code – you’ll need to “imitate Slowpoke” to receive it. While it’s not exactly clear what that involves, making a silly, blank expression should do the trick!
Starting October 24th and lasting until November 30th, you can get these codes by visiting a Pokemon Center in Japan. It appears each person can only receive one code, so you’ll need to go to a Pokemon Center yourself to get it.
Fans are speculating this could be a clue about a potential Mega Slowking reveal, especially since Mega Evolutions are heavily shown in the trailers for *Legends: Z-A*. However, it’s more likely Slowpoke was chosen simply because it’s the mascot for Kagawa Prefecture, and not as a hidden hint. Either way, it proves that unique Pokémon distributions will continue beyond *Pokémon Scarlet and Violet*. We’ll need to play *Legends: Z-A* to understand exactly how redeem codes will work, but it’s clear the feature will be included.
