Pokémon Legends: Z-A Makes Change to the Series Some Fans Have Been Asking For Years

For years, Pokémon fans have been asking for significant changes to the classic formula, and it looks like *Pokémon Legends: Z-A* is delivering. Since the original Pokémon games launched in 1996, over 120 games have been released, including 38 main series titles. Despite all these releases, the core gameplay has remained largely the same. 2022’s *Pokémon Legends: Arceus* was a big step towards innovation, and *Pokémon Legends: Z-A* appears to be building on that momentum.

The update includes improvements both large and small, even extending to character customization. For years, Pokémon fans have requested the ability to dress their characters without gender limitations, and now that’s possible! While this might not matter to all players, it’s a welcome change many have been hoping for, and one that previously seemed unlikely to happen.

“This Is a Very Good Thing”

We recently had a chance to play Pokémon Legends: Z-A and noticed a surprising change that Game Freak hadn’t mentioned before. Although it was just one small detail among a lot of new information about the game on Switch and Switch 2, it quickly caught the attention of fans. Many Pokémon players are excited about this new feature, and posts about it on X have already gotten over a million views.

One Pokémon fan expressed excitement about the news, but also hoped it wouldn’t limit choices in the future. Another fan simply replied with enthusiastic agreement.

Another fan explained they often wished they could choose different outfits for their character, pointing out the limitations caused by gender restrictions. Specifically, they wanted to be able to wear the jacket typically given to male characters instead of the dress usually assigned to female characters.

Honestly, this doesn’t really change how *good* the game actually is. Objectively, *Pokémon* Legends: Z-A isn’t suddenly better or worse. But I think it does make the RPG experience a little nicer for some people, and that can make a big difference. It’s a bit surprising to see Game Freak finally add this feature, but it’s something a lot of RPGs are doing these days. As usual, Pokémon seems to be a little behind the curve when it comes to new trends.

I’m really excited to hear your thoughts on all of this! Please, don’t hesitate to share what you think in the comments, or jump into the discussion happening over on the ComicBook Forum – I love connecting with fellow fans there!
