It seems like we’ve been waiting forever for a new Mafia game, with Mafia 3 sparking differing opinions. However, is Mafia: The Old Country capable of bringing this generally well-regarded series back onto the right path? That’s something you will need to judge for yourself.
In simpler terms, The Old Country, unlike the open-world adventure of Lincoln Clay in Mafia III, is portrayed as a throwback to the series’ origins. Set before World War I in the early 1900s Sicily, it serves as a prequel to the Mafia series.
The title generally received favorable feedback, as many critics appreciated its engaging narrative and convincing performances. However, some found fault with its outdated gameplay features and foreseeable format.
In our review of Mafia: The Old Country on PS5, we noted that the game’s gameplay concepts might not be sufficient to maintain engagement throughout its comparatively brief playtime.
The movie was “an exceptionally performed crime story that you might appreciate while watching but find hard to recall after the end credits.” In summary, it received a ‘fairly good’ 6/10 rating.
Additionally, it’s important to note that we’ve compiled a comprehensive guide for “Mafia: The Old Country” which may assist you in locating all the various collectibles within the game if needed.
Despite a less-than-satisfying performance from the franchise, rest assured, our opinion should not influence yours. As usual, feel free to pick your own rating from the survey linked within this post, and share your reasoning behind your decision in the comment section beneath.
