Everyone is excited about the new Power Rangers series coming to Disney+, and things were moving forward with casting and a planned filming start date. However, recent news has caused a setback, pushing back the release timeline. Don’t worry too much, though – it’s not necessarily a major problem.
Recent online reports suggest the live-action Power Rangers series is facing delays. According to insider @Jinsakuu, who has reliable sources, filming won’t begin in April as initially expected. Instead, production will focus on pre-production work. Casting hasn’t started and isn’t anticipated to begin until summer. This likely means the series won’t truly gain momentum until the second half of the year, potentially leading to a debut in late 2026 or more likely, 2027.
Why You Shouldn’t Panic…At Least Not Yet

Given the recent challenges with new Power Rangers shows and attempts to create a shared universe, it’s understandable why some fans are worried about this news. However, it’s probably too early to panic, and the report actually offers some reasonable explanations for the delay.
The delay is connected to Dan Shotz and Jonathan E. Steinberg’s work on Disney’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Fans are eager to see them lead the new Power Rangers series because of their work on Percy Jackson, but the next season of Percy Jackson is taking longer to film than planned. Since Percy Jackson is their current focus, it’s understandable that Power Rangers is the project being delayed.
Another factor is ongoing script revisions. This aligns with the studio and showrunners’ desire to take their time and not rush production, even though the project remains a priority. The latest script draft still centers around a new team of Rangers inheriting their powers from a previous generation to combat a fresh danger.
The core story remains mostly unchanged, and the showrunners are currently focused on another project, so there’s no need for fans to worry just yet. Things could change if major problems arise or production is significantly delayed, potentially even until 2027, but right now, this seems like standard development challenges. Hopefully, that continues, and fans will eventually get to see this project realized on screen.
