2026 promises to be a major year for Power Rangers fans! Three new series are planned, in addition to a live-action show already in development for Disney+. One series will revisit the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers a decade later, while another will draw from over 30 years of Power Rangers history. The third new series will center around the Green Ranger, and we now have key details and a first glimpse at what’s in store.
The latest installment in the new Power Rangers series is called Power Rangers Green, and Penguin Random House recently revealed the cover and a description of the story. This book follows Tommy Oliver after he’s believed to have retired as a Power Ranger. Though he hasn’t used his morpher in a while, a surprising visitor from his past asks him to become a Ranger again. It’s currently unknown whether he’ll be able to transform into the Green Ranger once more. You can see the full cover art below.
This Isn’t The First Green Ranger Series, But There Are Key Differences

The Green Ranger is a fan favorite across the entire Power Rangers series, so fans are always eager to see new stories featuring Tommy Oliver. However, this isn’t the first time a Green Ranger story has been set in the future—BOOM! Studios previously explored this idea in their graphic novel, Soul of the Dragon.
Okay, so this graphic novel picks up twenty years after Tommy’s days with the Dino Thunder team. It was really cool to see him all grown up, having retired from being a Power Ranger and focused on a normal life – he’s a teacher and a dad to a son named JJ with Kat! But, naturally, things don’t stay peaceful for long. When JJ gets kidnapped, Tommy’s pulled back into action, dusting off his old Master Morpher. It’s a classic setup, but the story takes some genuinely unexpected turns as he fights to rescue his son. Seeing Tommy balance family life with being a Ranger again was a really compelling angle, and the plot definitely kept me guessing.
In Power Rangers Green, Tommy has left the Power Rangers and is enjoying a peaceful life with his family. The story explores how he’s adjusting to retirement, and it begins with a surprise visitor who asks him to become a Ranger again. This time, the request doesn’t seem related to his family, meaning it could be anyone from his past. Given Tommy’s history with so many different Ranger teams, the possibilities are wide open, and the visitor could even be one of the original five Rangers. You can read the official story details below.
Tommy Oliver is the last remaining Power Ranger, but he’s not entirely on his own. The world has changed drastically, and he’s been living a peaceful life with his family. However, a surprise visit from someone he used to know forces him to consider becoming a hero again. Will he team up with this old friend and return as the Green Power Ranger?
Join veteran Power Rangers writer Paul Allor, known for his work on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and G.I. Joe, and exciting new artist Gustaffo Vargas as they present a fresh take on Tommy Oliver’s story and a future that could change everything!
Power Rangers Green #1 releases in comic stores on August 5, 2026.
