Capcom first showed off Pragmata in 2020. This new sci-fi game was initially planned for release in 2022, but its launch was delayed several times. Now, Pragmata is aiming for an April 24th release on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Along with the new release date, Capcom released a demo for players to try. However, that demo was only available on PC. Fortunately, I recently got to play Pragmata on the Nintendo Switch 2.
I recently got a chance to play Pragmata on a Nintendo Switch 2 at a demo event. I tested it both when the console was connected to a TV and in handheld mode, and I’m continually amazed by how much more powerful the Switch 2 is for action games compared to the original Switch. If you’re curious about the gameplay, especially if your PC might not be able to run it, I’ll share my experience playing the Pragmata demo on the Switch 2 and what you can expect when the game releases in April.
Pragmata Looks Sharp & Runs Well on Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch has had a history of disappointing ports of games from other systems, so the new Switch 2 needs to prove it can deliver a better experience. I’ve tried some action games on the console, but many were older titles like Tomb Raider or Final Fantasy 7 Remake. That’s why I was eager to see how Pragmata would perform when I started playing it on the Switch 2.
I just played the demo, and wow, it immediately puts you right into the action! You get a really good look at both Diana and Hugh right away. The graphics on the Switch 2 are seriously impressive – the sci-fi world feels so alive. They kept Hugh in his suit the whole time, which is a little disappointing, but you get a fantastic view of Diana’s face and hair, and the detail is really good. Though, I did notice the Switch 2 seems to struggle a bit with blonde hair – it reminded me of the same issue with Cloud’s hair in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
The Pragmata demo included both exploration and fighting, and both worked well. I didn’t experience any slowdown while moving around as Hugh or during battles, which is impressive considering how fast-paced the combat is. The demo was short – only about 15 minutes long – so there’s still a lot to discover in Pragmata on the Switch 2. However, based on my initial experience, the game seems like a great fit for the Nintendo console.
Combat in Pragmata Put Me to the Test, So Get Ready If You Like a Challenge

What really makes Pragmata stand out, beyond being a brand new sci-fi game from Capcom, is how it plays. The game’s description highlights a unique “hacking twist” to the combat, and after trying it myself on the Switch 2, I can confirm it’s true! It really does make you think while you’re fighting. I’ve played a lot of action RPGs and adventure games, and I consider myself quick on the draw, but Pragmata definitely challenged my skills.
Diana is a skilled hacker who assists you both while exploring and during battles. She can unlock new areas and override security systems, but her abilities truly shine in combat. You’ll control both Diana, who rides on Hugh’s back and provides support, and Hugh himself, effectively managing two characters at once to fight off enemies.
In this game, before Hugh can hurt enemies with his guns, Diana needs to “hack” them first. This involves locking onto an enemy and solving a quick puzzle to reach a specific target. Only after successfully hacking can Hugh attack, and often he needs to aim for a weak spot. This makes combat more strategic than just shooting or slashing. Each hacking puzzle is unique, with helpful boosts and tricky obstacles along the way. It kept me engaged and challenged me in a way that few games do.
I’m really interested to see what players think of Pragmata when it comes out in April. The demo showed me the combat, and it seems quite challenging. However, we only got a small glimpse of the game’s overall story and world, which definitely piqued my interest. I’m also fairly confident the game will run well on the Switch 2 for those who prefer playing on Nintendo consoles.
