Fans are excited for the return of American Dad!, which will be back on Fox with a new season next year. A recent teaser gave a sneak peek of what’s to come. Fox’s animation lineup has seen some changes recently as the network focuses more on its popular animated series. While some shows were canceled, Fox’s 2026 schedule is full thanks to American Dad! being rescued from potential cancellation on TBS.
Fox has renewed American Dad! for four more seasons! After a 12-year gap, the animated series will return to the network’s Animation Domination programming block in February 2026. Fox released a short teaser featuring Stan to build excitement for the show’s return, and it will be a key part of their midseason lineup in 2026. Starting February 22nd, 2026, new episodes of American Dad! will return as part of Fox’s midseason lineup. The show will air alongside a new season of Family Guy, Universal Basic Guys, and other programs. American Dad! recently had a successful run on TBS, where it was the last original animated series – and one of the last original shows overall – produced by the network. In fact, it lasted longer on TBS than it did during its original run on Fox.
As a huge fan, I’ve noticed that American Dad! really changed over the years. The show that ran on TBS was quite different from the one most of us remember from its early days on Fox. It started as a show about a pretty standard, conservative CIA dad just trying to manage his family, but it quickly became something way more wild and unpredictable – the characters just do whatever crazy thing comes to mind! It’s going to be fascinating to see how the series adapts when it returns to Fox, and what changes they might make to feel right at home again.
What’s Going to Change for American Dad on Fox?
Matt Weitzman, an executive producer for American Dad!, recently spoke with fans at San Diego Comic Con about upcoming changes to the show. He explained that they’ll no longer be able to use certain language like “shit” and “God damn it.” However, Weitzman is optimistic and believes the writers don’t need to force humor into the show to remain entertaining. The show is also gearing up for a milestone – its 400th episode – when it returns to Fox.
The upcoming season of American Dad! will feature several new guest stars, including Mary Steenburgen, Ted Danson, Joe Mantegna, Chris Pine, Ming Na Wen, RuPaul, Wayne Newton, Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy, Jonathan Frakes, and Kyle Maclachlan. Details about the show’s 400th episode are still limited, but it will reportedly involve another clone of Stan – a concept the series has explored before.
