The latest installment in the Predator franchise is a huge success, proving that a fresh approach can revitalize a series. Directed by , this uniquely creative film has become the highest-grossing Predator movie in just over a week, and it continues to perform well in theaters.
When Prey came out on Disney+ in 2022, many fans of the Predator franchise were disappointed it didn’t get a traditional movie theater release, believing it could have been a big success in cinemas. Now, Predator: Badlands is offering a glimpse of what that theatrical experience might have been like.
Fans had to wait several years for a new Predator movie, but it was worth it. Director Trachtenberg took a risk by making the Predator the hero, and cleverly included references to the Alien movies. This has made Badlands the most well-received and financially successful film in the Predator series.
‘Predator: Badlands’ Has Surpassed Some Very High Expectations

20th Century Studios
Before the release of Predator: Badlands, many fans wondered if director Trachtenberg could get audiences to sympathize with a Predator – a creature usually seen as the villain in this long-running series. The answer, it seems, is yes, and surprisingly easily.
Critics loved Predator: Badlands, giving it an 85% rating, and audiences were even more enthusiastic with a 95% score. Coupled with a solid ‘A-‘ from CinemaScore, this made it the highest-rated Predator film to date. Now, thanks to its box office success, director Trachtenberg has the freedom to pursue any direction he chooses for future installments.
After just 10 days in theaters, Badlands has earned over $135 million worldwide, with over $60 million coming from U.S. theaters. This success means the film has already made more than its $105 million production budget and become the highest-grossing film in the series. Although it still has a ways to go to reach the $350 million earned by Alien: Romulus, positive reviews and audience buzz could draw even more viewers in the weeks ahead.
As a big fan, I’m really curious to see where the Predator series heads next. Trachtenberg has a clear vision, and I’m pretty confident the studio will let him explore it. With Alien: Romulus already confirmed and Alien: Earth getting another season, everyone’s really wondering if we’ll finally get another full-on Alien vs. Predator movie – it’s been over a decade since the last one, and it wasn’t exactly a hit. Honestly, at this point, it feels almost inevitable that they’ll try it again.
