The last few years have been great for fans of both the Predator and Alien series. Predator has seen success with films like Prey and Predator: Killer of Killers, along with the Predator: Badlands series. Meanwhile, Alien has delivered hits like Alien: Covenant and Alien: Earth. The latest Predator movie prominently features Weyland-Utani, the notorious corporation from the Alien universe, confirming that both franchises share the same world. Interestingly, Alien: Earth and Predator: Badlands actually have a surprising connection beyond simply existing in that shared universe.
Please be aware that this discussion contains spoilers for Predator: Badlands. Dan Trachtenberg’s new Predator film heavily features the Weyland-Utani corporation, known from the Alien franchise, and its synthetic androids. These androids are the main antagonists of Predator: Badlands and are sent to the planet Genna for the same reason they appear in Alien: Earth.
As a huge fan of the Alien and Predator universes, I was really intrigued by what Alien: Earth revealed. It turns out Weyland-Utani wasn’t just after the Xenomorphs; they were scouring the galaxy for any alien life they could exploit for profit. The TV series showed us a ton of new creatures, wildly different – and sometimes even more dangerous – than the Xenomorphs we know and love. I’m talking about creepy things like crawling eyeballs, insects that eat metal, and mysterious tentacles – all discovered during one of Weyland-Utani’s searches. And that hunt for new beings continued over in Predator: Badlands as well.
The Kalisk Hunt

Both Dek, a skilled hunter, and the ruthless Alien corporation are after the same prey: a creature called the Kalisk. For Dek, the Kalisk is a dangerous being deeply feared by his people, the Yatjua, and he hunts it to earn his place within their society. He wants to prove himself, moving beyond being seen as an outsider and becoming a full member of his clan by successfully taking down this formidable creature.
Weyland-Utani is after the creature because of its incredible ability to heal. Like Wolverine and Deadpool in Marvel comics, this alien can recover from almost any injury, and sometimes even faster and more completely than they can. Although Alien: Earth isn’t mentioned in Predator: Badlands, the corporation continues to pursue this goal. Currently, there are no confirmed future Alien or Predator projects, but it’s likely we’ll see more soon.
Aliens And Predators Collide

Although the 2004 film Alien vs. Predator was the first time these two alien species battled on the big screen, they’d been clashing in comics, novels, and video games for years prior. While many of those stories were well-received, the movies Alien vs. Predator and its sequel, Alien vs. Predator: Requiem, weren’t as successful. Now that both the Alien and Predator franchises are enjoying a resurgence in quality, a new crossover film could potentially capture the strengths of their recent successes.
Whether or not there will be a follow-up to Predator: Badlands or a second season of Alien: Earth is still unknown, but both are likely. Currently, Predator: Badlands is projected to be the top movie in North America this weekend, earning over $35 million. Director Dan Trachtenberg has hinted at future installments, raising the exciting possibility of another showdown between the Xenomorphs and Predators in a future film.
